Hey, fellow Pixels,
We’re thrilled to bring you our latest newsletter, diving deep into the fascinating world of Bitcoin (BTC) artwork and how Layer 2 solutions like Stacks can revolutionize the digital art space. If you’ve ever wondered how the biggest blockchain can amplify your artistic journey, buckle up—we’ve got a lot to share!
Ordinals: A New Era for BTC Artwork
First up, let’s talk about Ordinals. What makes them special? Unlike traditional NFTs that live on various blockchains, Ordinals are inscribed directly onto the Bitcoin blockchain. Yes, you heard that right—your art can now live on the most well-known and secure blockchain out there.
Why "Ordinals" and not "NFTs"? Well, the term “Ordinals” taps into the inherent value of order and sequence, a psychological nudge that screams originality and prestige. It's like having your art displayed in the Louvre of blockchains. Big names like Jack Butcher and Yue Minjun have already started inscribing their masterpieces on BTC, setting a trend that blends fine art with cutting-edge tech.
Stacks: The Bridge to BTC’s Future
Now, let’s get a bit technical—but don’t worry, we’ll keep it simple. Stacks is a Layer 2 protocol designed to bring smart contracts and decentralized applications (dApps) to Bitcoin. Think of it as an upgrade that makes the BTC ecosystem cheaper and more flexible—perfect for artists!
On Stacks, you can use platforms like Gamma, a marketplace where artists can mint and sell their digital creations. Then there’s Arkadiko, which provides DeFi tools, helping artists leverage their digital assets without selling them. These platforms make it easier and more cost-effective to operate within the BTC ecosystem, offering greater creative freedom with larger file sizes and more robust capabilities.
Future Trends: Adapting to a Growing Ecosystem
As Bitcoin continues to grow, so does the complexity and cost of operating on its Layer 1. This is where Stacks and other Layer 2 solutions come in, offering a lifeline with lower fees and enhanced functionality. As transaction fees on BTC rise, artists can pivot to Layer 2 platforms to maintain their creative and financial momentum.
Challenges? Sure, there are a few. Adapting to new technology can be daunting, but with community support and continuous learning, artists can overcome these hurdles. Remember, every great artist was first an amateur!
Conclusion: Your Call to Action
We hope this deep dive has sparked your curiosity and excitement. The BTC and Stacks ecosystems are ripe with opportunities for artists ready to explore and innovate. So, go ahead—dive in, create, and let your art shine on the grandest stage of them all.

I’m Aoife O’Dwyer (pronounced ee-fah), an illustrator, designer and founder based in Ireland. I’ve been creating artwork that explores themes of perception, identity, reality, nature, technology, mythology and sci-fi for over 18 years and have been minting my work since 2021. My work is driven by a desire to imagine what lives in the gaps of human perception and aims to subvert expectations by combining the familiar in unfamiliar ways – often via queer and neurodivergent storytelling perspectives. I work primarily in hand-drawn digital illustration and across an evolving body of AI referenced, assisted, created, and/or blended works.
