So I don't really have much to talk about today, but I thought it would be worth writing the one lesson/takeaway Brian (Unlonely founder) mentioned on stream about his dinner with Dan (Warpcast and Farcaster founder.)
They both talked about the frustrations of being a founder then Brian said he asked Dan about what it's like to be rich. Dan said it was weird because he was only rich on paper until Coinbase IPO'd and so he was only theoretically rich until one day suddenly he was actually liquid rich.
Brian asked if money made him happier and Dan instantly responded no.
Which Brian said makes sense because a lot of other people have had a similar reaction. Even from the perspective of a founder, the struggle was the same. Brian had friends who admired his progress, the way he admires Farcaster and Warpcaster's success. But all 3 of them deal with similar frustrations in terms of growth and wondering about the success and if they're doing things right.
Which my takeaway from all of this was just reinforcing the idea that happiness is not external. Neither success nor money will make you happy. If it does it's very fleeting and temporary. Look for happiness internally.
Which reminds me of The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor. He said we think of the formula as success leading to happiness when it's backwards. Being happy will make you more likely to succeed. Don't wait to be happy. Don't put it behind X or Y objective. That's not how it works.
So yeah, it was good to hear this idea being reinforced by two pretty cool founders.
