TL;DR: Leveraging LLMs like ChatGPT can reduce writer's block by acting as a safety net, enabling you to move from chaotic thoughts to coherent drafts more easily. While LLMs don't produce perfection, they free up mental space for strategic thinking, making it easier to craft impactful messages in a world where words are now abundant.
In the past few months, I’ve immersed myself in LLM tools, particularly from the building side. Recently, however, I decided to focus more on writing. While I enjoy building, strategic alignment and communication are critical aspects of my role.
When facing writer’s block, the best advice is often to just start typing—get the words out, no matter how rough. That first draft may be far from perfect, but it’s a starting point. Often, you’ll find it’s not as bad as you feared, or at least it will pave the way to something better.
It’s remarkable to have an LLM as a safety net, knowing it can help untangle my chaotic thoughts. Sometimes, I use ChatGPT’s voice interface and just talk, letting it capture my stream of consciousness. Later, I can rely on the LLM to extract and organize patterns from that mental noise.
This ties back to overcoming writer’s block. Even before I start writing, knowing this tool is in my arsenal has positively changed my approach. There’s less pressure to be perfect from the start. The presence of an LLM reduces the anxiety of getting everything right in the first draft. Just knowing the safety net is there can help you get moving, even if you don’t end up needing it.
LLMs make it incredibly easy to go from chaos to a semblance of order. They don’t produce perfection, but they free you from the burden of those initial steps. Strategy has always been the difference-maker, and that hasn’t changed. The most important element in writing remains the clarity of the message you want to convey. An LLM can generate reams of text, but it can’t give you a cohesive point. Now that individual words are cheap, the challenge is still to craft an impactful message.
