With the momentum from the landing page, I moved on to another task: refactoring major technical components of my web application to streamline the workflow and make it more intuitive. It’s always daunting to tear apart what works to reach something better. I am not a software engineer. That functionality, even with a truly unfortunate UI, was hard fought. But with AI—and, of course, source control—it felt straightforward and manageable.

Later I needed to get a workout in. I’d declined to go for a hike with my wife, as I had just yesterday gotten unblocked and really wanted to make some progress today. I opted for a home workout instead. Feeling pretty good about my work progress, I asked ChatGPT to create a full-body, 20-minute workout that I could do with just a jump rope. There are countless workout timer apps out there, but I’ve spent years frustrated with them. So, I decided to see what ChatGPT could help me build. Twenty-five minutes later, I had a very passable workout timer, and I got my workout in.

Not every day is like this—far from it. But when the pieces fall into place, AI can make it feel as though ideas spring forth into existence with remarkable ease. The key takeaway is that AI tools available today can be harnessed for significant personal productivity gains. The learning curve might seem steep, and the technology might feel intimidating, but the rewards are well worth the effort.
