Seed Club Launches Farcaster Crowdfund

Fund Good Ideas

Today Seed Club is announcing Crowdfund, a no-fee crowdfunding Mini App designed for Farcaster and the web!

Crowdfund helps Farcasters fund good ideas. Crowdfund creators declare their USDC funding target and deadline up-front, and can launch their campaigns in just a few taps. Supporters discover crowdfunds in their Farcaster feed and can donate directly from their preferred Farcaster client or any wallet-enabled web browser. If a crowdfund fails to meet its funding goal by the deadline, each supporter receives a notification to claim a full refund directly from the immutable smart contract deployed on Base.

Social + Crypto Capital Formation

Farcaster Mini Apps bring together the social experience of Twitter and the development affordances of dapps, empowering developers to build applications that are impossible on traditional social media. Mini App features such as in-feed distribution, mobile notifications, and built-in wallets make it possible to deliver modern, retentive distribution-first software experiences with crypto superpowers.

Seed Club built Crowdfund because we believe that social context creates new opportunities for capital formation on crypto rails. When you launch a Crowdfund on Farcaster, prospective supporters can see who you are and who stands behind you. Farcaster adds crucial context that was lacking in a world with only wallets, and we’re excited to build more Mini Apps on the protocol in the future.

We shipped Crowdfund in a three week sprint by leveraging powerful ecosystem infrastructure including Farcaster, Base, USDC, Index Supply, and Neynar.

Success in the Wild: Highlights from the Public Alpha

Since our Alpha release one week ago, Farcasters have organically discovered Crowdfund and launched 194 crowdfunds, eliciting 450 donations and $7500 of pre-launch volume. Organizers are already using Crowdfund in conjunction with applications like Amps and Zora to amplify reach and reward participation.

Crowdfund in the wild

Several types of crowdfund have already found success in the wild:

Heartwarming Direct Philanthropy

Farcaster @bertwurst.eth raised $1,500 for Lada the Dog’s cancer surgery, eclipsing their $1000 fundraising target in only 3 hours, and inspiring dozens of similar crowdfunding campaigns for people and pets in need.

Farcaster Open Source Public Goods

Farcaster data scientist @yesyes is raising funds to produce open source Farcaster data research reports and dashboards full-time. Their goal is to analyze onboarding & retention data to discover what types of early interactions transform Farcaster tourists into retained users.

Content Creators

Independent content creators from around the world are crowdfunding to purchase equipment and fund media productions. In Nigeria, @ifeoluwafavour raised funds to purchase a new phone to write articles and produce TikToks about the onchain economy. In Argentina, @duodomusica are raising funds to film a music video. Meanwhile in the USA, @astromarkc is raising money to purchase cameras and telescopes to continue his astrophotography practice documenting the stars.

IRL Events

Serial event organizer @emr.eth is using Crowdfund to fundraise for Farconnect Argentina, the next edition of this developer oriented Farcaster conference that happens alongside Ethereum’s DevConnect. emr’s goal is to make this event free to attend.

Categories We Anticipate Emerging Soon

  • Farcaster and Channel sponsorships of sports teams & local initiatives.

  • Onchain and IRL art spectacles and installations that light up the timeline.

  • Token incentives and cross-promotion that incentivize crowdfund discovery and donations
