a critically acclaimed weekly consumer crypto roundup

We’re aiming towards visions of a dramatically more interesting Internet. One where users are empowered owners of the networks they participate in, where millions of communities leverage newfound coordination and economic superpowers to achieve incredible things, and where digital objects and permissionless creation make the Internet a culturally rich place worth exploring and inhabiting.

But we have so much work to do to get there. We need way more consumer products that people actually want to use with the infrastructure we have today. It’s good enough, it’s time.

Most people, builders, and investors are missing something obvious.

But you see it. We see it.

500 Builders with Backdrop

Last week on Internet Explorers, we welcomed Joey from Backdrop, who has developed a model for supporting frontier tech by bringing together thousands of builders, grants, and social accountability into a four-week cohort. With two successful cohorts already completed and applications open for the third, it's a valuable opportunity for those at the early stages of their building journey seeking support and motivation.

PartyDAO introduces Party Rooms

Danny from PartyDAO introduced Party Rooms, a new product that integrates bonding curves, treasuries, and token-gated chats to foster group coordination in a socially driven environment. Drawing from lessons learned from DAO failures, they aim to create a less serious yet socially motivating product to facilitate community formation, with trading fees contributing to a shared group treasury, offering a compelling rallying point. We've set up a consumer crypto room to experiment with and will explore its integration with our new /consumercrypto channel on Warpcast, so feel free to join us and explore this beautifully designed product!

is the ERC404 in the room with us?

ERC404, an experimental token standard, blends ERC20 + ERC721 functionalities to introduce native liquidity and fractionalization to NFTs. To use a theoretical example: imagine a 10,000 NFT collection, which has 10,000 fungible tokens and 10,000 "replicant" NFTs. These can each be traded (fungible tokens on DEXs like Uniswap and the NFTs on marketplaces like Blur) and the tokens essentially follow each other.

Despite its unusually sus origin story and initial exploits, ERC404, implemented through projects like Pandora, has gained significant attention. There's a ton of speculative interest due to its unique market dynamics and potential to level up utility for genart projects and memecoins, all while facilitating broader community access to exclusive projects.

Headless Marketplaces

Jesse's recent post dives further into Headless Marketplaces, which basically just distribute marketplaces directly to users rather than attracting them to a centralized destination. This is uniquely unlocked by crypto because identity, money, and data travel with users, as well as the permissionless composability of protocols. With the rise of Farcaster and the introduction of Frames, there's rich terrain to develop new, socially-driven marketplaces. Three examples are Bountycaster (bounty marketplace), Ponder (survey marketplace), and Perl (prediction marketplace). Because 2-sided actions are accessible directly in feed via platforms like Warpcast, this is a bull case for disrupting traditional network effect-dominated businesses.

  • MintStars, an OnlyFans alternative, is a low-censorship content platform where creators & fans earn more through resales. After some rather rough news came out about OnlyFans, MintStars has seen a major uptick in signups, with over 800 creator signups in the past 10 days (4x what they had in all of January)! We're excited to see more tipping point moments like this where consumers shift towards platforms that are genuinely representing their users as owners and as real human beings in their networks, and we believe there is exponential growth ahead.
