In this July edition, we want to give a brief introduction to what Sivar Smile is. Why "Sivar"? "Sivar" it's a colloquial term that refers to the small tropical country in the heart of Central America, El Salvador. It's a nickname that Salvadorans often use in their slang.
El Salvador is one of the smallest countries in Latin America, boasting beautiful beaches highly coveted by surfers. It's surrounded by fertile countryside, majestic rivers, stunning volcanoes, serene lakes, purple and golden skies, and its people are very hardworking and friendly. Not to mention its delicious cuisine, featuring pupusas, and its rich coffee and cacao. However, it is also densely populated, with around 6.6 million inhabitants. Its gross domestic product per capita is similar to that of Eswatini, Armenia, Indonesia, or Georgia (data from 2017).
In terms of healthcare, particularly the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, the country is still developing and rebuilding after more than 30 years of violence. We lack many of the basic elements that other countries have in terms of health infrastructure or even our own statistics on epilepsy. However, this does not prevent us from building something from scratch.
Moreover, El Salvador is the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, which has boosted the use of cryptocurrencies in various areas of the economy.
