New Updates: Remixing, Flowing & Becoming
Music technology continues to be propelled forward by inevitable trends like remixing, flowing & becoming. If you've been out of touch with the changes in music distribution onchain, here's the latest updates:
Remixing
TBAs (token-bound accounts) started 1+ years ago with only in-network activity. ERC6551 team latest upgrade (March 2024) alters TBAs to use L2<=>L2 messaging. Now, my smart album on Base can collect music on Zora, Optimism, Mainnet, etc.
Starting today, NFTs can use their token bound account to execute cross-chain transactions on @ethereum, @0xPolygon, @Optimism, @base and @LineaBuild (with more coming soon) - all powered by LayerZero’s omnichain bridge
Flowing
When SoundXYZ protocol first released its protocol in 2022 it was too complex for me to make simple calls. Information was guarded & silo'd making it hard to build projects that span platforms. Sound & Zora have both released SDKs to make protocol interactions simple. Allowing information to flow easily across the internet.
Becoming
The job is not finished. Before, gas was high & music was static, From 2008-2023 that was the trend, Dencun upgrade in March '24 added EIP4844 to make gas fees nearly free on L2s. Music used to be sold in the fixed & rigid album, Music is evolving, becoming something new with its own identity & powers with smart albums.
