Canvas Group Report

February 2024

In this Snapshot taken February 29th, 2024 at 1:00pm UTC, we're delving into the intriguing dynamics of BasePaint full set holders – the Canvas Group. A prestigious circle boasting 204 unique canvases in their possession. If you're part of this exclusive group, or even just an avid BasePainter, you're in for a treat! For now, I will not reference any wallets specifically, of the wallets examined only 1 doesn’t have an ENS, OpenSea Name, or social media presence.

Continuing from my previous analysis on X:

We're not just focusing on any holders; we're zooming in on the top 17, ranging from those clutching 203 to the elite 204 canvas holders. However, there's a twist! Two holders of interest with a slightly smaller collection of 199 canvases have piqued curiosity and will also be examined.

Of these elite 17, 14 proudly hodl full sets, earning them the title of the Canvas Group member. Remarkably, 11 out of these 14 have remained loyal members since January. But wait, there's more! 3 newcomers have joined the Canvas Group ranks, armed with brushes and at least 1 captivating BasePaint derivative.

Speaking of derivatives, 2 new derivatives came in February:

But here's where the brush meets the canvas. Amongst the esteemed Canvas Group, only 6 are adorned with 1 or more Masterpieces, while 4 proudly snatched a PFP. Even more intriguing, 3 of these PFP holders also boast some Masterpieces. Could this be a sign of deep community engagement versus pure collecting obsession bifurcating the Canvas Group?

Now, let's address the 203 outliers. One unfortunate soul is still grappling with the aftermath of the Day 167 BasePaintBot Glitch. Another aspirant's dreams of joining the Canvas Group are dashed due to a missing Day 97. And hold onto your hats, the whale canvas holder – now with over 5k canvas’s – has made waves by transferring their entire collection to a new wallet!

Speaking of collection transfers one holder with a collection of 199 canvases has undertaken a bold move by transferring their prized possessions from Day 1-199 to a new wallet, all while their BasePaintBot subscription diligently continues its daily minting to the original wallet. With these two wallets combined, they are an honorary member of the Canvas Group.

Lastly, we have a fascinating case of a 199 holder who appears to double as both an art collector and creator if their OS is any indication. They have missed the Mint for Day 194-197 and Day 201, so they have unfortunately dropped out of the Canvas Group. Could the recent price spikes in the past couple of weeks prevented them from retaining Canvas Group status? Will they rejoin the ranks of the Canvas Group?

I hope you’ve found this as interesting as I do. If you think there’s something in the BasePaint ecosystem that need some investigating, drop me a DC on Warpcast

I’ll leave you with this final thought. Day 110 remains the low point for BasePaint mints with only 155, this means there can only ever be 155 members of the Canvas Group. Right now only 9% of the holders of Day 110 are Canvas Group member. 20 holders of Day 110 hold more than 1…
