Web3 Social Media Earnings March 2024

Did the Ides of Hive experiment impact my earnings on Hive?

At the beginning of March, I began an experiment on the Hive blockchain where I committed to publishing at least one piece of content every day for the month of March on the Hive blockchain. I named this experiment the Ides of Hive.

I did not suspend posting to other Web3 social media platforms during the month, which means you'll get a full report today of my earnings across all platforms. Let's begin.

gFam (XRP)

On gFam, my XRP earnings were somewhere between January's 5.994 XRP earnings and February's 0.464 XRP earnings. The amount of XRP I managed to rake in on this small but growing platform was 2.308988.

The USD equivalent to those earnings was 1.4553551364. Not bad since the value of XRP has fallen to $0.5827, down from its March high of $0.718 on March 11.

Total earnings in March (rounded down) = $1.45

Hive (HIVE/HBD/LEO)

If interested, you can see how I managed to post to the Hive blockchain every day through the month of March, as well as view a list of posts published to the blockchain. It was easier than I thought it was going to be. But did this experiment impact my earnings on Hive at all?

Probably not.

In March, I earned 61.22 Hive Power (HP) versus 64.516 in February and 75.943 in January. Ironically, the USD value for that HP was higher on the last day of March than the USD value of January's or February's earnings. This can be accounted for by the rise in value of HIVE over that time. The USD equivalent for March's HIVE earnings were $26.29399.

My HBD earnings in March were 10.412, up from 6.017 in February. That equates to $10.51612 USD.

As you can see, my total USD earnings from author and curation rewards is approximately $7 more in March than in February when the only posts I made to any Web3 social media platform were on Hive. Much of that can be attributed to the rise in HIVE's value from one month to the next.

But what about HBD savings? My earnings were 14.819, which amounts to $14.96719 USD.

My total HIVE/HBD earnings for March were $51.7773.

Since many of my posts in March were made using the @InLeo front end, I'll go ahead and report my LEO earnings. My total LEO holdings at the end of March were 324.052 versus 251.886 at the end of February. That's a difference of 72.166 LEO. The value of all of my LEO, as of today, is $32.926, but I've earned an additional 13.474 LEO since the beginning of April.

The value of all of my Hive layer-2 tokens, including LEO, at the end of March was $48.44. That's an increase of $21.48 since the end of February. That means my total earnings in March on the Hive blockchain came to $73.2573.

Total earnings in March (rounded down) = $73.25

Ecency (Ecency Points)

Technically, @Ecency is a part of the Hive blockchain ecosystem. It's another posting front end that rewards users with Ecency Points just for using the application. Many of my microblogging posts were made with Ecency Waves during March. My activity on the platform for March earned me 981.726 Ecency Points, but used many of those throughout the month to promote my posts and receive additional earnings on them. At the end of the month, I retained 261.792 Ecency Points.

Ecency Points have very little monetary value. For me, the true value is in using them to boost my posts so that I can encourage additional author rewards. Today, for instance, I have 185.762 Ecency Points in my wallet, which has a USD value of $0372.

Ecency Points are not a part of the Hive-Engine earnings. I should probably include a separate report for them each month. What do you think?

Paragraph (MATIC)

On Paragraph, readers can collect some of my posts as NFTs, which earns me a few MATIC. I always run those NFTs with limitations (usually, 3 per post) to encourage readers to support my content habit. In March, I earned 3 MATIC, which translates into $3.00 USD on the last day of March.

Fun Fact: You can collect this post on my Paragraph blog.

Total earnings in March (rounded down) = $3.00

Publish0x (ETH/OP)

I continue to publish to Publish0x for two reasons:

  1. Its ease of use, and

  2. I still receive considerable engagement on my posts

In March, I earned 0.00051752 ETH and 0.38989908 OP. This translates into $1.8759375472 and $1.4270306328 USD value, respectively, for a total of $3.30296818 in USD value.

Total earnings in March (rounded down) = $3.30

Torum (XTM)

I'm still debating whether or not I should stick around Torum. It feels too much like Facebook to me, but I stick around because I'm still earning a few tokens each month even though I'm not as active as I could be. I'm not there every day, which severely limits my ability to earning mission rewards. In March, I earned 3 XTM. That amounts to $0.21522 in USD.

Total earnings in March (rounded down) = $0.21

Presearch (PRE)

My favorite search engine. I earned slightly less in March than I did in April. Only 3.01 PRE. The USD value of that PRE at the end of March was 0.0672735.

Total earnings in March (rounded down) = $0.06

So, how much does all o f this equal in terms of USD value? Not counting the Hive-Engine layer-2 tokens, the total value earned was $59.81811682. When you add in the $21.48 USD value of Hive layer-2 tokens, it comes to a total of $81.29811682.

Total earnings (rounded down) from all platforms = $81.29

That's not a bad run heading into the fourth month of the year.
