The Holy Spirit Enables Us To Do The Will of God

It is the Holy Ghost who enables us to do the will of God.

We see this truth borne out in several Scriptures including the testimony of the life of Jesus.

Before the start of His ministry, at His baptism, it is recorded in the gospels that the Spirit of God descended on Him: Matthew 3:16; Mark 1:10; Luke 3:21,22 and we know the impact of the Holy Ghost in His earthly ministry for Acts 10:38 tells us:

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Also, we know from Scripture that God has predestined us conformed to the image of His Son, Jesus Christ (Romans 8:29).

This then is God's will for us- that we be in the image of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the truth: John 14:6 and in John 16:13, Jesus tells us that the Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of truth, will guide us into all truth.

Therefore, the Holy Spirit guiding us into all truth or all of Jesus will help us in becoming like Jesus.

Additionally, being conformed to the image of  or having a similar image to that of the Son means having a glorified body like He has and Scripture is clear that this involves the person of the Holy Spirit:

2 Corinthians 3:18

But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.

See also Romans 8:11.

Also, the early disciples and apostles were to be (and were in fact) witnesses of the resurrection of Jesus (Luke 24:46-49) yet Jesus told them to wait for the baptism of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4).

Why?

Well, from Acts 1:8, we understand that it is only after they are baptized with the Holy Ghost that they are empowered to and can become witnesses for Jesus.

So it is with us as believers in Christ Jesus. We believe and testify that Jesus rose from the dead and are therefore, in a sense, to be witnesses to the world of this truth in character, hope, our evangelism, etc.

Therefore, we too can only fulfil our call as witnesses through the empowerment of the Holy Ghost.

Lastly, to do or act in accordance with God's will, whether it relates to things like the choice of a spouse, job, specific direction in certain areas, etc., we need to understand it first and Romans 8:27, 1 Corinthians 2:10,11, John 16:13 and 1 John 2:20,27 all teach us that the Holy Ghost knows the will of God.

And as regards walking in it?

Ephesians 5:15-18 and Colossians 3:16 teach us that by being filled with the Spirit we can walk circumspectly (or accurately) in the will of God these last days.

In conclusion, we see that the Holy Ghost enables us to do God's will.

This means that we are to walk closely with the Holy Ghost in our lives. And while this involves a number of things, one of the ways we can ensure that we are constantly under the influence of the Holy Spirit is to constantly speak (sing) to ourselves in Psalms, Hymns, Spiritual songs and be thankful to God.

See Ephesians 5:18-20.

I call you blessed.
