Early Pioneers Bridging DNS to ENS

The Future of Domains is Closer than you think

There are a lot of interesting things happening in the ENS space in the last year. A pivotal moment was earlier this year when Godaddy and Ens enabled Gasless DNSSEC. This enables any DNS domain to become a crypto wallet address without the need to pay for gas. This feature allows millions of domain names to instantly exchange crypto over the internet.

Curious to try it out, I decided to assign a wallet address to one of my favorite domains. The process was seamless—GoDaddy offers an intuitive setup that makes adding a crypto wallet address straightforward.

But who were the early innovators that Imported their DNS domain before Gasless DNSECC? Some of the earliest innovators include Jesse.xyz, one of the first contributors to base protocol, and Brantly.xyz, one of the earliest members of the ENS DAO. Others include Galligan.xyz founder of XMTP, a messaging platform and Chi.xyz.

Each of the previous examples were individuals that decided to combine there DNS with ENS for identity, but what about for business? Some notable Web 3 companies include:

PWN is a peer-to-peer permissionless lending protocol in which “ PWN users can borrow against—or lend using—any asset in their wallet (ERC-20, NFT, and even a bundle of both), while enjoying absolute flexibility on the loan terms (LTV, duration, APR, etc.).”

Lens.xyz:The Lens Protocol is a Web3 social graph on the Polygon Proof-of-Stake blockchain. It is designed to empower creators to own the links between themselves and their community, forming a fully composable, user-owned social graph.

Mirror.xyz: Mirror is an established web3 platform for decentralized publishing. Creators can use it to share writing, content, and even embed NFTs directly into their work. It allows for funding and monetization through cryptocurrencies.

Glass.xyz: Glass Protocol is a system for creating and distributing media on Ethereum that promises to unlock a universe of new possibilities for creators and collectors.

Dopamine.xyz: Dopamine is an Operator of a customizable fashion hub intended to partner with streetwear brands. The company's platform offers web3-enabled chips embedded in all garments, enabling artists to create limited-edition physical-digital NFT bundles sold through a curated fashion marketplace.

Nexus.xyz: nexus describes itself as a decentralized cloud computing network designed to scale Ethereum’s compute, storage and I/O capabilities. Nexus is an attempt to build a general-purpose platform for verifiable cloud computing, using zero-knowledge proofs, multi-party computation and state-machine-replication.”

It was also revealed that Nexus was sold in 2022 for 149,000.

Understanding Web2 and Web3 concepts  gives domainers an advantage in the space. The ability to send any token to a resolvable domain name. Innovation usually takes time, but now that people have the ability to make there DNS domain a crypto wallet address without an additional cost, I believe more will do so in the future.
