Bringing Brands to Life

Bringing Brands to Life: The Magic of Custom Illustrations and 3D Designs in Children’s Marketing

In a market flooded with choices, creating a child-friendly brand that stands out is more important than ever. This article explores how custom illustrations and 3D designs can captivate and connect with a young audience, setting a brand apart in the competitive children’s market.

The Importance of Visually Appealing Branding

Vibrant and engaging visuals are massively important to children because it’s one of the first things they see that trigger an emotional response. Without something that looks bold or colourful or friendly, children are not going to engage with the content because they will see it as too serious or too grown-up.

When it comes to marketing your product, imaginative branding can create memorable experiences for children, and also their parents. Young customers are vital and also equally as important as older customers in this fast paced, vibrant imaginative and playful world that we live in.

The Impact of Custom Illustrations

If you are able to do this, custom illustrations can create an extremely unique brand identity that speaks directly to children. The reason being, is when you have custom illustrations, a child can feel important and special. This is crucial to respecting and honouring current and also future young customers.

True customer engagement is attainable with custom products and services

Imagine a toy brand that produces toy cars, for example, offering out a service to put your child’s name on a small registration plate. Each car could have a story of the adventures it’s been on, the places it’s visited, all based around information provided by the parent. As a toy company to have a service like this, it can create a much wider customer base. It can also help cement a longer lasting relationship between your brand and your audience, resulting in better business performance.

Customisation is a strong way to retain customer loyalty

The Role of 3-D Design in Branding

In the world of games, and even 3-D animated cartoons, the importance of 3-D designs in creating interactive and appealing brands, mascots or product models is more prevalent than ever.

If you’re a brand providing educational resources, or if you’re an information driven brand helping children to learn about new things, then it’s super important to be able to translate your 2-D content into 3-D content.

There are so many ways to do this now from 3-D modelling to affordable 3-D printing, immersive environments and augmented reality. All these tools and creative resources are available and possible to leverage and enhance your brand, taking it to the next level.

A custom world built inside Roblox

Let’s look at a children’s app that delivers quizzes and general knowledge or facts. If the app is purely 2-D, and if the content is engaging, then a child is likely to stay on the app. However if the content were to be 3-D, there’s far more appeal for a child to continue using the app and engage in more exploration.

The possibility of having objects you can examine or places you can walk around are far more appealing than just 2-D interaction. Introducing AR into the app as well, allowing a child to explore objects or even historical artefacts in their local environment, pushes the brand even further. Adding in 3-D characters that can walk around your living room or interact with the child using AI, are further testament to the power of 3-D design in branding.

Innovative Design Trends

Some of the current innovative design trends include personalised, brand experiences. Customisation and personalisation are hugely important for engaging audiences. This includes tailored content and user journeys, reflecting individual preferences, which in turn enhances brand loyalty and user satisfaction.

Effective storytelling creates an emotional connection, inspiring action, and resonates with your audience. This particular trend of customising experiences emphasises authentic storytelling and it’s all about creating a consistent narrative, across different touch points in the user journey.

Another trend is the use of mascots. These encourage an emotional connection with the audience by using a lovable character, enhancing brand recognition and also awareness. This trend is particularly effective in the food industry and also with experimental tech companies.

One final trend of note is bold rebranding. Vivid, fluorescent colour schemes and rounded sans-serif fonts are making a comeback. This trend focuses on optimism, positivity, fun and uses colours and custom typefaces to inject dynamism into brand identities. Something which is particularly appealing to children.

Collaborative Process

Using my experience of running a children’s brand, creating characters, storytelling, designing 3-D mascots, building virtual worlds and marketing to a younger audience, I can work with businesses to understand their vision and translate it into appealing visual designs and approaches.

Beginning with 2-D sketches, we can bounce ideas, collaborate on the backgrounds of those characters, what they stand for, what they represent and then translate that into a 3-D form. This can then be utilised across-the-board in virtual environments or augmented reality, experiences and games.

Theoretical Success Metrics

The potential for success, such as increased brand recognition or engagement, that can result from effective children’s branding is real. There is the opportunity to grow your audience of younger people through more engaging, fun, appealing visuals. Interactive elements on websites, apps, games, they all increase engagement and they all increase visual appeal.
