Let’s start with some of the ‘safer’ airdrops. Airdrops are one of the greatest and most unique aspects of the crypto industry, where users get rewarded, in some cases heavily, for being early adopters of new protocols and networks. Imagine if you were an early user of the likes of Facebook and got shares for doing so. That is what airdrops effectively do via governance tokens, and depending on the protocol, its backing, and the hype around its launch, it can be worth anywhere from hundreds of dollars to, in very rare cases, a 6 figure airdrop at its peak for a single wallet (DYDX, JTO).
Of course, there are no guarantees, and it comes with risks associated with interacting with new smart contracts such as token bridges and other network dapps. But if you’re willing, here’s a list below of more highly anticipated airdrops in 2024 and how to try to become eligible.
Upcoming Airdrops
Starkware
A very highly anticipated airdrop is due in Q1 2024. This chain will be doing a series of reward-based programs, and leaks have indicated that retroactive usage of the network is part of the criteria.
Action: Bridge to Starknet and interact with dapps within different categories.
Starknet Wallet → argent.xyz/argent-x
Where to bridge to Starknet → orbiter.finance
Where to find Dapps → dappland.com
Celestia
Celestia is a recently deployed token representing the data availability network Celestia. TIA, the network token, has already been airdropped; however, there is speculation that with a likely influx of new protocols in 2024, there will be a potential series of airdrops for those staking TIA.
Action: Stake TIA tokens on the Celestia network and vote on proposals.
Get ATOM → coinbase.com/price/cosmos
Keplr Wallet → www.keplr.app
Send your ATOM to this newly created wallet, then swap it for Celestia (TIA) using the in-app swap feature.
Stake TIA → wallet.keplr.app
Voting → wallet.keplr.app/?tab=active-proposals
Orbiter Finance
This popular bridge protocol is currently running a quest system to earn points associated with your wallet address.
Action: Complete these quests before they expire and use the bridge organically when moving funds for other airdrops (e.g. Starkware).
Bridge → orbiter.finance
Ambient Finance
A new decentralised exchange with novel protocol features for adding liquidity landed earlier this year and does not currently have a token. The DEX currently supports Ethereum, Scroll and Canto networks and we recommend executing on the Scroll network to reduce your fees significantly (and double dip into a potential Scroll airdrop).
Action: Create an LP position on Ambient & execute a few swaps.
DEX → ambient.finance
Scroll Network
Like Starknet, this highly anticipated zkEVM Layer 2 network has a large backing and is speculated to drop a token in 2024. These are great airdrops to target because compared to Arbitrum & Optimism, both networks are sitting in the billions of dollars regarding market capitalisation, and their respective airdrops are worth thousands.
Action: Bridge to Scroll and interact with dapps within different categories.
Bridge → scroll.io/bridge
Dapps to use → scroll.io/ecosystem
Linea
It's the same story with the Linea network, a ZK rollup powered by Consensys. They are operating off an XP system to interact with DeFi and be early adopters.
Action: Bridge to Linea and interact with dapps within DeFi.
Bridge → bridge.linea.build
Dapps to use → linea.build/apps
Blast L2
One of the more controversial but hyped launches is the Blast L2 network. Created by the founder that bought you Blur, the largest NFT marketplace that managed to topple Opensea and backed by the most notable VC in crypto, Paradigm. This L2 uses deposits to generate native yield for users on the network by utilising the likes of Maker for stablecoins and Lido for staked ETH.
The caveat with this airdrop, which works off a points system, is that you must bridge one way to the Blast network until February 2024. Also, you can only gain access via another user’s single-use invite code.
Action: Use one of the invite codes below to access Blast and bridge over some ETH.
Code 1 → blast.io/UUQGY
Code 2 → blast.io/TWHIU
Code 3 → blast.io/GK7RI
Code 4 → blast.io/0I971
Code 5 → blast.io/MOEBE
If they run out, DM me, and I will try to obtain more access codes.
Rainbow Wallet
The popular Rainbow Wallet announced a new points system, and you might already be eligible for some. For the initial claim, they weight points heavier to Metamask users and how much funds were within your wallet; however, you can earn more points by simply using the wallet in the future.
Action: Import existing wallets into Rainbow to claim retroactive points and use the wallet going forward for on-chain activities to generate further points.
Wallet → rainbow.me (referral), rainbow.me (non-referral)
Aevo
A decentralised perpetual and options exchange backed by Paradigm, Aevo are growing fast after a recent rebrand from Ribbon Finance. As part of this rebranding, Aevo is conducting a token swap for previous RBN holders into a new token to be deployed, AEVO. This new token marks a new era for the project as the token will align more closely with the team’s new strategy and products in the future with all-new tokenomics. The team have already confirmed an airdrop post-TGE of AEVO, so it’s no secret but still surprisingly under the radar.
Action 1: Bridge some ETH or stablecoins to Aevo and execute some trades using perpetual futures or options (recommend the former).
Action 2: On the portfolio overview page, deposit collateral into the aeUSD asset, yield-bearing collateral stablecoin. You can do this directly from USDC or convert ETH to USDC from the same page before doing so.
Exchange → app.aevo.xyz (referral, fee discount), aevo.xyz (non-referral)
Layer Zero
Layer Zero is an omnichain interoperability protocol, but most will know it from the token bridge protocol, Stargate, which has billions of dollars of volume to date. It’s one of the most highly anticipated airdrops with massive equity backing over the past few years. Because of this, we can expect a high valuation for the token, but it is notoriously known for being ‘farmed’ for the airdrop.
Action: Bridge funds using Stargate, stake STG and vote on active proposals.
Bridge → stargate.finance/transfer
Get STG → app.1inch.io/#/1/advanced/swap/ETH/STG
Stake → stargate.finance/stake
Voting → snapshot.org/#/stgdao.eth
That’s it for this list. As mentioned, there are many more opportunities, but I think the higher-risk airdrops in ecosystems, where everyone plays musical chairs, will require a separate post.
