$BONSAI: Lens Protocol's Native Token 🌳

Memecoin season is upon us, and the Lens Protocol is diving in headfirst with its very own $BONSAI! But before we explore this new token, let's take a quick step back.

What are memecoins?

These are cryptocurrencies often inspired by internet memes or pop-culture trends. While some might scoff at their legitimacy, memecoins can foster passionate communities and even achieve surprising levels of success.

Now, back to $BONSAI!

The $BONSAI, a DN-404 token on Polygon, was airdropped this week across the Lens ecosystem!

Dreamed up by the brilliant minds of Carlos Beltran, Nate Mueller, and Markus B, this isn't just any old token. Let's find out why:

• The Launch Pad: $BONSAI made its grand entrance on the 4th of March, 2024 , promising a new chapter of interaction and creativity within the Lens cosmos.

• The Drop Heard 'Round the World: With about 4,500 profiles getting a piece of the $BONSAI pie, it quickly became the ecosystem's new golden child.

• Community Cult: It's a community-centric initiative that airdropped to the most active Lens profiles, kicking off a series of rewards for the community's movers and shakers.

• $BONSAI OG? Because it's a DN-404 Token, you already have 1 NFT for every 100,000 $BONSAI you hold - the Token & NFT are connected. If your balance goes below a 100.000 mark, you loose the NFT. Send the NFT to someone also transfers 100k in BONSAI.

Beyond Monetary Value 🤝

$BONSAI serves also as a functional tool within the Lens ecosystem, empowering users. Here's some of the Lens Community & Projects adoptions to $BONSAI :

Today, let's chat about the Lens Improvement Proposal (LIP-16) that's all about standardising fees for collecting NFTs and other paid actions. Strap in, as we break down this game-changer.

WTF is LIP-16? 🤔

In a nutshell, LIP-16 is all about creating a sustainable ecosystem within Lens Protocol. Authored by Kipto and Nilesh, it's targeting a world where microtransactions aren't just micro but mighty in their impact. The proposal introduces nominal fees for actions like NFT collects and paid follows, ensuring that everyone in the Lens family gets their fair share of the pie.

Why Should We Care? 👇

It's simple: sustainability is sexy. The current free-for-all is grand, but it's not going to butter our bread in the long run. LIP-16 is proposing a tiny fee on microtransactions to keep the Lens ship sailing smoothly without burdening us, the users. Plus, it's all about fairness – making sure creators, applications, and the protocol itself can thrive together.

• Fees, Glorious Fees: We're looking at a modest fee mechanism that'll sprinkle some revenue across the ecosystem without drenching the user experience.
