Were you in Japan in the 80s? Neither was I, but Kran’s incredible Toyota collection takes us there with their bubblegum-colored AI reenactments. The series captured my imagination. What is she doing? Why is she in a helmet? The questions draw me in; the color keeps me.

Border Line - I

AI-assisted art doesn’t have to be only generative. Many talented prompt artists perform mixed media work. Rurutu combines AI-assisted generations with digital painting to create soulful, colorful works. But what part is AI-generated, and what strokes are digital painting? It’s impossible to tell, and to me, that’s the point. Rurutu’s work makes us realize that it’s not the technique that makes it art but the intention and the result.

Elfilter has a wonderful sense of color and composition that they bring to bear in multiple collections and styles. Their work feels grand and majestic, like the recordings of someone living a large, full life–your most interesting friend.

AI technologies are increasingly mastering texture, and some artists have learned how to harness this to create magical pieces that fully feel like they were hand painted/drawn/etched/etc. Szkandal’s makes me feel like I am paging through a vintage, saturated comic book. Even though it looks like nothing else, the striking realistic texture permits me to enter the world of pleasure bots, insects, and much more.
