5 Artists From the UNDRGRND Collection
UNDRGRND DIGS is a periodical feature showcasing artists that the UNDRGRND curators dig. We sift through the social media and NFT platforms to find the best artists waiting to be discovered. UNDRGRND believes in the artists we feature and we will purchase NFTs from each artist featured. Purchases will be airdropped to reward UNDRGRND community members.

A talented photographer has found his true calling with these neo-noir animations. Using his own photos, Rob Dawkins creates scenes wholly unique and in a genre that can be described as a distant cousin of Blade Runner. These colorful, damp, brooding scenes exist simultaneously in the future and the past, or a time all to themselves.

Bgfdel’s intricately detailed illustrations balance immense control and freedom beautifully. Bgdel crams so much content into each piece that one viewing is insufficient. Each scene depicts similar characters in other works simply enjoying life and enhancing their happiness through coffee and marijuana. Repurposing childhood characters in stoned variations of their original selves, Bgfdel reminds us all to take things a little less seriously and that sometimes art can just be fun to look at.

What is missing is what makes it great. With no words, often black and white, and three (or sometimes fewer) images, Three Panel Crimes manages to communicate complete stories. Across multiple marketplaces and chains, we can follow the story of an abduction of a little girl with a balloon in Carrie’d Away and then watch her enact her revenge on tezos in a variety of violence. We can also see the story of a man who will stop at nothing to rescue his friend, a bear, from a mob of clowns. Three Panel Crimes even covers the effects of the crimes in the three-paneled series Institutionalized which follows a criminal’s viewpoint from arrest to their imprisonment to their release. So many words could be expressed about these works that use no words to communicate so beautifully.

With the resurgence of socially acceptable hallucinogens also comes psychedelic art. We often write off bright, trippy, expressive designs as “hippie shit,” and no one understands that more than Arawanuaria. Arawanuaria’s work expresses the search for transcendental enlightenment and can be categorized as psychedelic art, but her execution and detail set her work apart from others. Each piece is a genuinely free-flowing expression from the artist but with precision in each line that cannot be dismissed as random. In the search for an understanding of self, she has found a masterful way to express herself and share that gift with the rest of us.

Odilia Fenny creates beauty with such gruesome and horrifying images. Limiting herself to black and white (and occasionally red), Odilia's art will haunt the viewer long after the experience. Much of her work uses the movement of smoke from cigarettes to help create the terror and gravity of the scenes depicted. But, it also brings in the sense of weightlessness and freedom of form. The subjects are free to explore the borders of the work and exist without definitiveness, allowing the viewers' imagination to fill in the gaps and bring their fears to her works.
Each UNDRGRND DIGS will feature artists our curators have purchased for the UNDRGRND Collection. UNDRGRND will airdrop pieces from our collection to community members via giveaways.
