In the same realm of Blade Runner 2049 lives the artwork of Emre Çotul. The brooding neon scenes are missing the typical destruction and destituteness of a cyber-punk future but only because of how precise and clean Emre’s creations are. The vibrant colors and clean lines cause the minimalist art to pop off the screen.
Hailing from Turkey and creating NFTs for over a year, Emre’s art fits perfectly in the art world of cutting-edge technology. Revolving around subjects with cyborg appendages, light swords and genetic modifications give those individuals an extra layer in their menacing demeanors.
The use of bright neon colors that have become ubiquitous in technological growth provides a contrast to the characteristics of the subjects in each image. Depicting individuals reminiscent of death, with new-age scythes, as well as skeletal frameworks provide a juxtaposition rife with subtext where life and death move forward in the future hand in hand. While we may try to outrun our mortality through technology, death and decay will find us and adapt.

Too dark and menacing for the world of Tron, Emre’s creations could hold their own against any of Sutu’s Choose Your Own Player characters. Fans of both artists’ work can only hope these two artists cross paths someday.
