Unlock Protocol provides a native mechanism for transferring and lending onchain memberships, subscriptions, and tickets. This new feature makes the key transfer capability easier to access from the Unlock Labs dashboard app.
A new menu item, “Transfer membership,” has been added to the dropdown menu for each membership, subscription, or ticket in the Unlock Labs dashboard.
Transferring keys in Unlock Protocol is straightforward, and it's important to note that this functionality can be controlled by the lock manager. For example, even when transfers are generally disabled, the lock manager retains the ability to transfer keys.
Technical Details: Key Management Functions
Unlock Protocol provides two important functions for managing key transfers and loans:
lendKey: This function enables a key manager to lend a key to another user.
unlendKey: This function allows a key manager to recover a previously lent key.
These functions give key managers flexibility in sharing access to locked content or resources without permanently relinquishing ownership of the key.
The ability to lend keys is a powerful feature of Unlock Protocol, as it allows for more dynamic and flexible management of access rights to subscriptions and memberships.
