3 For Write3: Is Eth Too Expensive For Web3 Creators?

Plus, I stumbled upon a new Write3 project

Good Morning Write3 Family!

Welcome to another edition of the Write3 Newsletter, where each week I explore the intersection of web3 and writing. Here's what we have for you this Thursday:

β€’1 Write3 Tip
β€’1 Write3 News You Can Use
β€’1 Literary NFT Worth Collecting

1. Write3 Tip - Explore Low Cost Chains

Last week, we held our inaugural auction for a 1/1 copy of the Write3 Newsletter. Congratulations to PlantsNFT on the winning bid! This experience, however, underscored the crazy high gas fees associated with minting and auctioning on Ethereum.

The costs to mint and accept the auction exceeded the revenue generated from the mint itself. In contrast, I minted and airdropped 170 "First 500" NFTs on the Polygon chain for less than $10. 🀯

To ensure the blockchain remains a successful space for creators, we must strive for cost-effective and efficient creation. High costs for auctions, mints, and airdrops can dampen the excitement and deter creators. Which is a bummer.

My suggestion is to explore Layer 2 solutions like Optimism and Polygon, which enable cost-effective operations while maintaining the interoperability with Ethereum. Tezos and Solana are also viable alternatives, although Solana currently lacks a platform for writing NFTs.

For collectors, educate yourself about Layer 2 solutions, bridge some ETH, and seek out compelling creators and projects to support. For creators, familiarize yourself with Layer 2 options and utilize platforms that offer multi-chain minting options, like Manifold, which now supports Optimism.

2. Write3 News - Showcase Your Creative Writing

Here are two great opportunities for you to flex your creative writing muscles:

  • "Avenue League" Season 1: Avenue, a Web3 Discord alternative developed by the team behind Jenkins the Valet, is hosting its first Creative Writing League. Participate in the inaugural season, themed around Lore Creation, by crafting narratives and stories for your community. If you own any NFTs from the participating communities, you're eligible to participate. Learn more here:

  • The Quest of Evolution: Quest is inviting writers to submit a Twitter thread on any topic. Write a short story, use the hashtag #TQOEContest, and mention Quest of Evolution in the first tweet. Winners stand to gain QEV tokens, Amazon gift cards, and more. Here's more info:

3. A Literary NFT Worth Collecting - Open Book

I recently discovered an innovative Write3 project, Open Book. Conceived by Kenny Schachter, Open Book offers a platform for prominent web3 writers and creators. The unique collection model allows you to create your own CoreBook with featured writers of your choice. It also offers a chance for grassroot creators like ourselves to contribute. It's a cool project with plenty of promise. Learn more here:

**Reminder: By collecting today's newsletter, you'll be minting a unique piece of Write3 art. Your support enables me to continue doing what I love, and for that, I am deeply grateful. Happy collecting!
