5 Proven Approaches to Get a community management job in web3

Community management is a very competitive field like any other field, but what makes it even more frustrating is that people with little to No experience can get a job in this space without following the status quo, I’ve been a community manager for more than 16 months working with different project & I can tell you for a fact the way it’s being preached online to get a job is the general way of searching for Jobs a lot of people already know about these websites which makes your chances to get a job in community management roles very slim.

So I’m going to give you 5 proven approaches to get a community Job you wouldn’t easily see on the internet.

Direct messaging CEO’s, COO’s, Marketing Managers & Founders of the project

Most of the times I’ve been employed was through this approach, it’s pretty simple because the people who are in charge of such employment have other things they are doing & they don’t know how to go about hiring individuals for community management roles, they are a lot of employers out there just waiting for someone to message them & tell them they are looking for a community manager role, usually they’ll ask you question like; how much do you charge, What is your experience, are you comfortable working in such time zones. Once you answer these questions rest assured you would be given a trial period were you will be given a chance to prove yourself. You can send messages on platforms like twitter & telegram, But the only downside about this is that some CEO’s can’t be messaged & some may not answer you but rest assured if you are able to DM 50 people, 7 will reply, 3 may tell you to try in a few months time, one will give you a chance to do a trial period usually to show how hard you can work. But always make sure to do a bit of research about the project for things like; if they have community managers, if they have one are they performing well.

Discord servers

They are many discord servers that post job listings which aren’t posted on popular websites or regular job websites, these listings will give information about the pay, tasks & duties, preferred working time zones, language you can speak Etc. They are many conditions It usually depends on what the employer is looking for. These listings are usually posted at different times & the employer can get what they are looking for within minutes of posting the job listing, so it’s advisable to be very proactive in these situation as the barrier to entry is low, it’s more of a fastest fingers wins situation. Volunteering

This was how I got my first gig in web3 as a Moderator & Shiller (shilling is the act of promoting across different social media channels)in which I was given some tasks to complete for the next 2 weeks, you can ask any project you want to work for, for volunteering positions & the chances of you getting a volunteering position is very high. Most people don’t volunteer because they fear that they may end up not getting paid at all which is likely but the reason for volunteering in the first place is to gain experience, and if you can please or exceed expectations of your Employer you can eventually become a paid employee.

Referrals

This is a very tough one especially if you don’t have any experience but if you have friends are working as community managers, you can always tell them to help you. Or if you have experience working with projects & you have a good relationship with the founders of the project you worked with you can actually get a spot as a community manager, although it depends on your relationship with the people you’ve worked for, this can also work when a potential employer ask for your referees who can vouch that you have a track record of experience & also help you convince them that you are the best fit for the position

Be So Good They Can’t Ignore You!

This is something I’m trying out for myself where I’m just writing & doing the most I can to catch the attention of employers looking for people to fit into certain roles, a recruiter has commended me for using this approach so I guess I’m on the right track to achieving my goal. I’m looking for accountability partner so if your down to go down the same route please do well to send me a DM on Twitter @Y2K_Idris, I’m always active there.

Conclusion

These are tried & tested methods to get a job if you can Implement these approaches rest assured you should be able to get a job in no time! It all boils down to you putting in the work & effort to achieve your goal of getting a job.
