Interview with Losi - July Community Member of the Month

Welcome, everyone, to an exciting interview with the talented Losi, our July CMOTM! Losi is a singer-songwriter, creative, and entrepreneur from Cali, Colombia, who began her music journey just two years ago. Since then, she has released several songs and expanded her presence in the Web3 space by selling her music to collectors on the blockchain. Losi's songs serve as an autobiography, capturing her life experiences and emotions, from love and heartbreak to fear and bravery. Her music reflects her story of overcoming health battles, committing to her dreams, and navigating life's complexities.

Today, we have a group of passionate individuals ready to ask Losi some intriguing questions. Let's dive in!

Daniel ObutƩ: Your favorite studio moment?
Losi: Ahhhh so hard! Haha, definitely have a lot of favorite studio moments. But, if I have to pick one, I would probably choose last weekā€™s recording session. I spent the whole weekend at my friendā€™s studio recording a song that is very, very special to me, and it was perfect. It was just the two of us in the studio recording, laughing, and talking for hours. Three days of magic. It felt so special, and I felt so comfortable there that I think it will be reflected in the song.

Daniel ObutƩ: Your top 3 favorite music artists?
Losi: Haha, also such a hard question! But Justin Bieber, Karol G, and Rihanna.

Davyd: Artista colombiano con quien te gustarĆa colaborar? (Who is a Colombian artist that you want to collaborate with?)
Losi: MANYYYY, but to name a few: Karol G, Morat, Shakira, Manuel Turizo, Sebastian Yatra, Carlos Vives, Feid, Malumaā€¦ I could go on.

Davyd: QuĆ© es lo primero que te inspira en la creaciĆ³n de una canciĆ³n? (What is the first thing that inspires you when creating a song?)
Losi: My life experiences for sure! Usually, I think of a time/event in my life, what was happening, what I was experiencingā€¦and then re-create the story through a song.

Heather/CC: Of all your songs, which was the HARDEST emotionally to create?
Losi: Definitely my upcoming song ā€˜VIDA.ā€™ I donā€™t want to share too much about it yet, but itā€™s a very emotionally charged song, so itā€™s definitely been the hardest to write and record.

Heather/CC: What is the HARDEST part of creating for you?
Losi: I think the hardest part of creating is determining when something is finished/ready to be shared with the world. Sometimes I feel it can be better, that I can add or remove somethingā€¦ and can get caught overthinking too much. In reality, a piece of work can always be improvedā€¦ and will never be perfect, so we have to know when to say, ā€œokay, itā€™s ready to be released.ā€ Thatā€™s the hardest part.

OhnahjiB: How would you describe your musical style to someone who is new to your work?
Losi: Nowadays, Iā€™d say itā€™s mostly urban pop in Spanishā€¦ but Iā€™m still experimenting every day when it comes to my music and the style Iā€™m creating for Losi.

OhnahjiB: Do you find that certain emotions or themes come across differently in English versus Spanish?
Losi: I think emotions are the one thing that binds us as human beings. Sadness, joy, fear, and love are the same in all languagesā€¦ so nopeā€¦ thatā€™s why I think music is a universal language, it transmits emotion, so I donā€™t think language matters that much. I think instruments of choice, bpms, melodies, and music genres have a bigger impact on how a message comes across than the language itself.

Hurric4n3ike: Who are your top musical influences?
Losi: Iā€™ve had many musical influences throughout my life, both in Spanish and English, and all in different genres. I like to take bits and pieces of the things I like about different artistsā€¦ whether itā€™s the lyrics, music style, arrangement, etc. But when I create, Iā€™m not trying to sound like a specific artistā€¦ I just create based on what is coming from within.

Hurric4n3ike: Do you plan on taking over Latin America as well? šŸ”„
Losi: Definitely!

Tej M: What are the challenges you faced in your career and how did you overcome them?
Losi: I think challenges are faced every day and every step of the wayā€¦ I donā€™t see them as something Iā€™ve ā€œovercomeā€ precisely since new challenges always arise. Itā€™s just part of the process, and every challenge has to be approached/tackled differently, so there is no one formula. However, I will say that most situations are mentalā€¦ so to overcome any challenge, I do believe the first thing we need to do is learn to take control of our mind/thoughts. If weā€™re able to do that, I think we can overcome any challenge we face.

Tej M: What is your favorite moment during a live performance?
Losi: Singing, of course, haha, and the energy from the crowd!

AttaBotty: How do you connect with audiences who may only understand one of the languages you sing in?
Losi: Haha, thatā€™s my constant struggleā€¦ I try to balance things and do somethings in Spanish and somethings in English, add captions in the other language, or translate things. Thereā€™s no hack for this one! Although I will say, when it comes to the actual songs, I feel a lot of people connect with the music without having to understand the lyrics.

AttaBotty: Can you walk us through your songwriting process? Do you write differently when you're writing in Spanish vs. English?
Losi: Honestly, the songwriting process to me varies from song to songā€¦ Some start out with a lyric or melody that comes to mind, others start out with a theme or specific person I want to write the song to, and others by an instrumental. But the process is not different whether the song is in Spanish or English. Like I said before, I think the language is just another element of the songā€¦ I mean, Iā€™m the same Losi, and my emotions and life experiences are the same whether I express them in English or in Spanish.
