Post 2 Years Thoughts

This shit is hard

Intro

GM. Short week here in the USA due to Thanksgiving. Trying something a little different than the weekly recap of what is going on. I'll be experimenting a bit more the coming weeks as a refine my strategy for content for season three. I am experimenting mostly due to the fact that most of you get a lot of your content from other sources. Based on what I can see from metrics, most of the value people get is when I include my commentary on why I think certain aspects of the news are important.

This seems to resonate with folks and it offers a different or sometimes similar take to others. So with that said I wanted to give an update on the state of affairs on my content creator journey. Before diving in wanted to cover the numbers.

The Numbers

  • 27 total people subscribed and have paid for my hypersub which is an ATH for me, last year I had 7

  • Of those, 30% churned

  • 21 of the subs were net new, non friends in web3 that I interact with daily

  • Drops Breakdown: 12+ podcast episodes, 2 POAPs, 3 pieces of art, 40+ weekly issues, 10+ artist features

  • Time and Money, alot

Insights

I am not really sure what is normal churn as this is my first year really experiencing it. I imagine 30% is not great. I did reach out to some folks and had them resubcribe which taught me that it is never personal, people get busy, situations change and overall people are kind. It is hard to get feedback once people are out the door even with incentives so I can only make decisions on my gut. I suspect the type of content is not resonating with weekly posts taking a good chunk of time I have been contemplating moving towards a different model of writing, one where I write longer and go deeper.

There are some things that are becoming even more apparent as I finished year two. I still enjoying this and if I had to guess why is, I enjoy meeting cool people and talking to them. Learning about people's stories and sharing that with the world. Which is why the weekly part of the newsletter feels to me to be on the chopping block. No decision has been made but when I ran a poll a while back, some people loved it other were meh on it. I don't know if its because i've been doing it for a while but I feel about the same. Some week it feels amazing to write other weeks less.

The other part that sticks out to me from the past year is committing to being more onchain and experimenting works for me or has been working for me. Putting my subscription, media and doubling down on Farcaster has led to newer folks finding out about me and subscribing. Don't get me wrong, building a community is not easy, at least not for me but it is a fun challenge.

So this coming year, I will continue leaning in to being more onchain and creating more ephemeral content. I enjoyed my onchain daily experiment and plan to continue this as a chat on my Telegram. I will continue to meet more folks IRL and URL and continue having fun and experimenting.

Fin

A bit different than usual, but if you are here for season three of me being weird on the internet and onchain then stick around. Have a great Thanksgiving all for those that celebrate for the others, enjoy the quietness as the Americans will be offline arguing about crypto with their relatives haha.

If the Ambassador tier is out of reach, I now offer a free patron tier that you can check out here. I also encourage you to check out my podcast and YouTube for more content.
