Chapter 2

The Curse of Hollow

Ashley wanted to kick Zach in the nuts, but he was long gone.

Now it was just her and Bristol.

"Want a ride home?" he asked as he pretended to busy himself at a filing cabinet.

Ashley scoffed. "Is that why you wanted to see me?" It occurred to her that the note on her assignment was just an excuse for Bristol to keep trying to worm his way into her life. Or rather, her mother's.

“Oh, that." He let out a long breath and frowned. "I just… can I see your letter again?” he held out his hand. "I think you're dipping your toes into dangerous waters. The assignment was to fix a problem in your community, not write a letter to the newspaper about how your entire town..."

"Sucks?" She smirked then opened her backpack up, and filed the letter neatly into her homework folder. She had plans for that letter, all right. And they were nothing to do with her useless English teacher.

Ashley offered her teacher a sickly sweet smile. "See you tomorrow."

As she started off, he called after her. "Actually, I'll see you tonight. Lasagna, right?"

Actually, she thought as she stalked out of the room, you won't.

It was time to get serious, and Ashley was beginning to realize that the adults in her life couldn't help.

Or maybe, for some reason, they wouldn't.
