Builders Garden

Our Journey and the future of mini-apps

Builders Gardenlimone.ethFrank

Builders Garden, limone.eth and Frank

TLDR;

Builders Garden launched in late 2023 as a product studio powered by the crazy talent at urbe.eth. Over the past year, we’ve grown our team, crushed it with partners, and validated our agency model. Now, we’re doubling down on mini-apps—lightweight, viral products built for ecosystems like Farcaster and Worldcoin. Think rapid builds, instant distribution, and lots of fun. If you have ideas or needs for mini-apps, we’re open to collaborating and bringing your vision to life.

How It All Started

Builders Garden was born at the end of 2023. It all started with a simple idea: take the amazing talent from urbe.eth and do three things really well—win hackathons, build awesome products, and support companies who need cutting-edge solutions.

At its core, Builders Garden is all about speed. We’re not your typical slow-moving agency. We combine top-tier quality with insane velocity, and our track record at hackathons proves it. Whether it’s Farcaster Frames, AI agents, or account abstraction, we’re always pushing boundaries and staying ahead of the curve.

And with the urbe.eth community backing us, we’ve got a deep bench of skilled builders ready to jump in at a moment’s notice. What started with just me (limone.eth), frankc.eth, and orbulo.eth, has grown into an 10 person squad by mid-2024. Shoutout to the crew: bianc8.eth, 0xcaso, itsmide.eth, blackicon.eth, drone, stepome, and mctflurry. This squad is 🔥.

Year One Highlights

We kept a low profile in our first year, focusing on building relationships with companies who believed in us. And wow, it paid off. We teamed up with big names like XMTP, Akasha, Talent Protocol, Airstack, and Request Network. Most of these partnerships came from hackathons—our secret weapon for showcasing what we can do.

But we didn’t just consult. We also took the time to build our own products. Projects like Stringz (a mobile-native Farcaster client) and Drift (a stablecoin-native POS) helped us test ideas and show what we’re capable of.

Now, we’re going all in on internal product development. It’s risky, but we’re betting big because we believe in what we’re building.

The Big Bet: Mini-apps

Mini-apps are the future, and we’re planting our flag here. Why? Two reasons:

  1. Easy Distribution: These apps integrate directly into platforms like Farcaster and World App, where users are already hanging out. No need to fight for attention—it’s built-in.

  2. Rapid Builds: Mini-apps are lightweight and quick to build. We can go from idea to launch in record time without draining resources.

They’re also perfect for experimenting. Got a wild idea? Build a mini-app, test it out, and see what sticks.

In this tweet, some of the most successful mini-apps built on Farcaster so far (we shipped Farville recently and a Frames V2 starter as well!).

Our Game Plan for Mini-apps

We’re keeping things simple but strategic. Here’s how we’re tackling this:

  • Tiny Teams: Three-person squads to stay agile and laser-focused.

  • Instant Monetization: Subscriptions, micropayments—mini-apps that pay for themselves from day one.

  • Built to Go Viral: Social features are a must. Think games, collaborations, and shareable moments.

  • Fun Factor: Whether it’s a utility or a game, it’ll be fun to use—like your favorite mobile game.

Our mini-apps will span a variety of use cases. The common thread? They’ll all be easy, fun, and super shareable.

Want to experiment with mini-apps?

The garden is just getting started 🌱.
If you or your company is exploring mini-apps or has specific ideas or needs, we’d love to collaborate! Whether it’s brainstorming, building, or consulting, we’re here to help bring your vision to life.

Let’s team up, create something impactful, and grow together. The garden is open, and we’re ready to build—just reach out at gm@builders.garden!

How would you improve this page? Goal is to be able to send this to prospective onchain builders to answer the question "why frames?" After we get the messaging right, will invest some time in making it a proper marketing website. https://warpcast.notion.site/Why-Frames-18b6a6c0c101804da34bc143469883df

0. pick a handful of strong web apps. bonus points for examples that are today offchain but obvious use cases (e.g. fandango, eBay) 1. build out fake flows demonstrating the frame (buy a ticket from a cast; respond to auction notif). hand-wave the payment screens 2. use these videos to highlight each benefit

We take care of the boring stuff, so you can focus on your app: - Authentication - Distribution - Notifications - Access to social graph - Wallet integration I would also add a screenshot of the "add frame" modal, with an arrow pointing to the "confirm" button that says "this is what happens when a user clicks": - You know their ID - You can send notifications - You can check their social graph - You can check if they hold a specific ERC-20 or ERC-721 - You can initiate unchain transactions - You can initiate farcaster actions like "like", "recast", "follow".

gave it a stab here: https://mosayeri.notion.site/Why-Frames-18b4d38f9bf5809b9058cf5776410b63?pvs=4 farcade demo: doesn't really showcase any of the Frame benefits. it mainly just showcases Farcade. yoink video: great user journey. but the video is too fast. if the user isn't familiar with Warpcast and Yoink they kind of have no idea what's happening.

“Why Frames” presupposes the dev has enough familiarity with FC to know what frames are, but not enough to know what they do. This is kind of a weird entry point. Alt might be “Why Farcaster?”, followed by “Get instant distribution for your web app in as little as 10 minutes using Frames”

Fair, but most developers I chat with know about Farcaster. The goal is something I can send to warm leads.

In that case, title seems fine and I’d do something like this for intro sentence: Get 10,000 transactions with 1 hour of work. Distribution has never been easier. Page is clear overall.

An index of frames available or more examples would be nice! I think highlighting what the community has built would be nice. The page is too nitty gritty. I don’t want to hear about the features of how to build frames (at least at first). That can go into a docs section. I want to see the vision and how other community members have been creative with it.

Leading with metrics around how many users, transaction volume, etc leading frames get. Maybe a case study of a successful frame to explain the infeed discovery, install, notification, transaction flow. I don’t think mini apps are inherently interesting to developers.

Personally I would reorder the value props and put distribution at the top of that bulleted list Would also add testimonials. Listening to @chuckstock on @gmfarcaster I think they mentioned rolling out in several places including frames v2 and Telegram. Can also speak volumes to the quality of users
