Purple is an onchain organization whose goal is to support and extend the Farcaster protocol and ecosystem. Inspired by the governance model of Nouns, Purple was the first DAO to launch on Nouns.build, drop the noggles, yet support a protocol in a Nounish way.
Early on, Purple helped solve the "cold start problem" for the protocol's ecosystem where it can be difficult to have users without apps built on top of it yet difficult to convince developers to build apps for a protocol with no users. In a time when there was no funding in the Farcaster ecosystem, users of the protocol pooled funds together via the daily auction to reward users building on top of the protocol. We were the first source of funding for many now-essential apps, media projects, and companies within the protocol, such as Ponder, Herocast, Kiwi News, Launchcaster, and GM Farcaster, while also supporting FarCon and early Farcaster meetups, including ETHDenver.
By providing capital through grants and funding requests, Purple played a key role in jumpstarting Farcaster’s growth, incentivizing builders, and bringing innovative projects to life. This is about more than just funding; it’s about creating a sustainable, community-driven model that encourages participation and innovation.
Today, even with increased capital flowing into the Farcaster ecosystem, including from Venture Capital, Purple remains crucial in funding Farcaster public goods, organizing meetups, and supporting cultural and community initiatives. We focus on projects that may not attract traditional funding but are essential for the health and vibrancy of the ecosystem. Purple’s mission continues to be fostering innovation, ensuring that the Farcaster protocol not only grows but thrives as a community-owned and driven space.
