why farcaster

zooming out on being in the zone

tldr: I've found a social media home that allows me to easily share all aspects of myself under the same roof.

I joined Farcaster (aka fc) in November 2022, after a friend recommended I give it a try. Twitter was the spot most of the crypto conversations were taking place, but it was quickly devolving and I was searching for a replacement to establish my new home base.

When I first joined, it was very dev heavy and I didn't fit in, but I was observing and learning a lot. There was a bridge being built between builders and artists, which felt really exciting. I've tested many apps before, but could tell immediately that this was the start of something different.

As I've shared previously, I got really sick in December 2022 and wasn't able to look at a screen for many months. Social media in general would cause a cortisol spike, but not when I visited Farcaster. It became the only place where I could keep my finger on the blockchain pulse and focus on my wellbeing.

I spent the majority of 2023 unplugged and as the year was winding down and my health had returned, I knew that I needed to choose a place to focus on showing up and sharing. That place was Farcaster and when I logged back in, I saw that channels had launched. This is where it all clicked.

I really enjoyed being able to connect with people over shared interests and a way to organize my thoughts. In my first attempt to share consistently, I cast in FarcastHER and received thoughtful replies immediately. We had a group zoom call not long after and I was so thankful to have quickly made new friends. It felt nice to have social connection again after such my hiatus.

what if fc actually stands for "finding community"?

It's now been seven months of being actively engaged on Farcaster and I'm amazed how my path has unfolded. I've found community, am building a dream project, sharing my art consistently, writing publicly and becoming friends with incredibly talented humans. The shared values are refreshing and provide me with hope for an otherwise icky internet.

I couldn't have predicted where this year would lead and I'm so glad that I chose to focus my time and attention here. If you're reading this and are not already on Farcaster, here's your invitation to give it a try.
