It's been a long time coming but we've officially deployed our own minting protocol to own the full end-to-end collecting experience on Coop Records.

Since starting in 2023, we'd like to give a huge shoutout to Sound.xyz for allowed us to grow our catalog and build a platform and product around onchain music. Sound was in many ways the inception and primary driver of the core Music NFT movement. Despite shifting their focus to a new product - Vault.fm - we still believe very strongly in their mission to better connect artist and fans and are optimistic our paths will connect in the future.

The decision to launch the Coop Protocol came largely from the desire to have more flexibility in how we move as an entity and a collective over the coming year. We're eager and excited to build a more enriched collecting experience and want to double down on things like abstraction and curator rewards.

Owning a protocol provides a ton of optionality for how we go about building on top of Coop Recs and we're excited to invite all our COOP holders into that conversation in the coming months. It also makes us eligible for Onchain Builder Rewards from Optimism - a source of onchain revenue we're very eager to tap into as an additional means of earning income to reinvest in our campaigns for artists.

As of this week - we'll be minting all our new songs directly on the Coop Protocol as fixed editions at a low cost. You can easily see which songs are on the new protocol via the progress bar which shows how close each track is to selling out.

As a collector on Coop - the experience will feel exactly the same. Mints are now ~50% cheaper than they were before, and you can start to earn ETH when someone collects a song after you on the feed.

We believe that going back to the roots of fixed editions that unlock a download is the best way to reach real music fans and are going to be spending all our energy polishing the experience to make something inviting to someone who's never touched crypto before.

This is definitely a big decision for us. In the short term we're likely sacrificing income from crypto-natives to build a format that is hopefully more inviting to real fans.

Our goal is to find a way to marry the collectible experience with song tokens on cooprecs.fun - but we want to start by making sure real people can collect music first before going too deep down the crypto rabbithole.

We still plan to distribute our music to Audius, Sound, Rodeo and Soneium - and are excited to deploy the Coop Protocol on other L2s as well.
