Host a "Vitalik: An Ethereum Story" Premiere in Your City on Sept 18th

This is specifically for hosts outside of the U.S., Canada, UK and Australia.

EthereumFilm

EthereumFilm

On September 18th, we have the opportunity to showcase the collective strength of the Ethereum community by hosting simultaneous screenings of Vitalik: An Ethereum Story worldwide. By hosting a local premiere in your city, you'll play a crucial role in creating a global, community-driven event and help make this decentralized film premiere a reality in every corner of the world.

If you live in the US, Canada, Australia or the UK we will have premieres in over 65 theaters that you'll be able to see on our website on Friday, July 26th. Right now, we are focused on connecting with hosts outside of these four countries.

How to Host a Community or Corporate Screening (No Tickets)

As a host your responsibility includes:

  • Securing the venue

  • Covering the "print control" fee (admin, tech support & delivery cost) - $200

  • Covering the film buyout fee (community screening $500, corporate screening $3,000)

  • Promoting the event to your community

Gathr will deliver the film to you anywhere in the world via an encrypted movie player that protects the film from piracy. You will also be able to collect RSVPs via Gathr’s platform and promote on our website EthereumFilm.xyz.

The film is available in English. We will be taking requests for other languages on a case-by-case basis. Please email Optimist@Gathr.com if you want to request a language before moving forward.

If the fees are prohibitive we may be able to provide scholarship assistance. Please reach out to us at Optimist@Gathr.com.

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Find a local theater or public event space that can host a film screening on Sept 18th. We will deliver the film digitally to you or a theater anywhere. You will be responsible for the costs of any venue rentals.  Please ask for the cost of the venue rental and the capacity of the space.

  2. Visit this link: https://gathr.com/films/vitalik-an-ethereum-story/screenings/new

  3. Create a profile on Gathr

  4. Step 1: click “cinema anywhere”

  5. Step 2: click “in person” and enter location and capacity of the venue

  6. Step 3: click “Free” and enter your venue capacity

  7. Step 4: the start and end date should be Sept 18th. We recommend a 7pm to 9pm timing so that you can show the film and show the Q&A.

    1. Request your screening! You'll be taken to a screen that allows you to manage your event and ticket sales. Please wait until our team confirms your screening and sends next steps before making any changes. We will quickly be in touch so that you can start promoting your event. If your event is public it will also show up on our website EthereumFilm.xyz for people to rsvp.

How to Host a Ticketed Screening

As a host your responsibility includes:

  • Securing the venue

  • Covering the "print control" fee (admin, tech support & delivery cost) - $200

  • Covering the film fee - $500

  • Promoting the event to your community

In return, you’ll get 100% of the ticket sales. We’re partnering with theatrical distributor, Gathr, and their “Events on Demand” tool to ensure your event only proceeds once enough tickets are sold and ensures you won't be left covering the cost of print control and venue out of pocket.

Additionally, Gathr will equip you with a ticketing tool so that you can get paid and so that we can promote your premiere on our website EthereumFilm.xyz.

The film is available in English with subtitles in Spanish, French, German, Chinese and Portuguese. We will be taking requests for other languages on a case-by-case basis. Please email Optimist@Gathr.com if you want to request a language before moving forward.

If the Print Control fee is prohibitive we may be able to provide scholarship assistance. Please reach out to us at Optimist@Gathr.com.

Step-by-step Instructions:

  1. Find a local theater or public event space that can host a film screening on Sept 18th. We will deliver the film digitally to you or a theater anywhere. You will be responsible for the costs of any venue rentals.  Please ask for the cost of the venue rental and the capacity of the space.

  2. Visit this link: https://gathr.com/films/vitalik-an-ethereum-story/screenings/new

  3. Create a profile on Gathr

  4. Step 1: click “cinema anywhere”

  5. Step 2: click “in person” and enter location and capacity of the venue

  6. Step 3: click “paid tickets” and “Events on Demand”. Gathr’s “Events on Demand” tool makes sure that the event only goes ahead when enough tickets are sold so there is no risk that you’ll be left covering the cost of the film delivery and venue.

  7. Step 4: the start and end date should be Sept 18th. We recommend a 7pm to 9pm timing so that you can show the film and show the Q&A.

  8. Step 5: enter a minimum guarantee of the cost of the venue plus $200 which is the fee for "print control" plus $500 which is the film fee. We recommend you put a deadline of August 18th for your minimum guarantee to be reached. This will give you enough time to pay your venue one month in advance. If your venue does not need advance notice, you can move your deadline to August 30th.

Request your screening! You'll be taken to a screen that allows you to manage your event and ticket sales. Please wait until our team confirms your screening and sends next steps before making any changes. We will quickly be in touch so that you can start selling tickets. If your event is public it will also show up on our website EthereumFilm.xyz for people to buy tickets.

Hi Linda, is there a package fee for the a community? We may have 10+ city in mainland China to do the screening, (200+500)*10 = $7000 would be way too much cost for a community.

Excited for the movie! I'm curious about your decision to focus on Vitalik. His contributions are undeniably amazing, but I'm interested in understanding the choice considering Ethereum's unique structure where no single person owns it

+ curious too! would be kinda ironic if a film about one of the most important pieces of decentralised tech focused on a central figure lol (even if it’s more than deserved, i think symbolically it matters a lot)

Documentaries always evolve in the process of making them because we never know what story will unfold. It’s the fun and challenge in making them. Focusing on Vitalik, and taking a character-driven approach to the film, allowed us to make the film more accessible to a broader audience, while also allowing us to focus on someone who we felt represented the larger values and ethos of the community. This film is the centerpiece of our “Ethereum Stories” series. We’ll be sharing additional stories each week starting on July 30th that focus on topics like community, generative art, DAOs, public goods, DEX’s and more—all through a human lens!

will the film be only about vitalik, or will it expand beyond him?

Chris TempleFarcaster
Chris Temple
Commented 1 year ago

Vitalik is a core part, but there's so much more in it. A single film couldn't capture the full story of Ethereum—this is an ecosystem too diverse and vast for one film—but seeing the community through Vitalik’s eyes helped us make this story accessible, human, and focused. This film is the centerpiece of our “Ethereum Stories” series where we’ll be sharing additional stories each week that focus on topics like community, generative art, DAOs, public goods, DEX’s and more—all through a human lens!

We then met Carrie when we were working on another film in the crypto space called "This Is Not Financial Advice" that premiered at Tribeca last year.

1: For me, the hardest part was the edit. We had to synthesize such a complex story of moving parts into a single documentary film under 90 minutes that was understandable and relatable to a wider audience. We had hundreds of hours of footage and interviews to wade through!

Honestly just learning how long editing takes for a feature documentary, had no idea before. Standard to have 1 month of editing work (or more) for every 10 minutes of finished footage

Chris TempleFarcaster

That's a hard question to answer in such a short format! The technical elements have been fascinating undoubtedly, but I think personally I've loved seeing how the decentralized coordination actually happens in practice. We're so used to a traditional top-down corporate structure, that we've loved seeing the messy, beautiful process of consensus.
