On September 18th, we have the opportunity to showcase the collective strength of the Ethereum community by hosting simultaneous screenings of Vitalik: An Ethereum Story worldwide. By hosting a local premiere in your city, you'll play a crucial role in creating a global, community-driven event and help make this decentralized film premiere a reality in every corner of the world.
If you live in the US, Canada, Australia or the UK we will have premieres in over 65 theaters that you'll be able to see on our website on Friday, July 26th. Right now, we are focused on connecting with hosts outside of these four countries.
How to Host a Community or Corporate Screening (No Tickets)
As a host your responsibility includes:
Securing the venue
Covering the "print control" fee (admin, tech support & delivery cost) - $200
Covering the film buyout fee (community screening $500, corporate screening $3,000)
Promoting the event to your community
Gathr will deliver the film to you anywhere in the world via an encrypted movie player that protects the film from piracy. You will also be able to collect RSVPs via Gathr’s platform and promote on our website EthereumFilm.xyz.
The film is available in English. We will be taking requests for other languages on a case-by-case basis. Please email Optimist@Gathr.com if you want to request a language before moving forward.
If the fees are prohibitive we may be able to provide scholarship assistance. Please reach out to us at Optimist@Gathr.com.
Step-by-step Instructions:
Find a local theater or public event space that can host a film screening on Sept 18th. We will deliver the film digitally to you or a theater anywhere. You will be responsible for the costs of any venue rentals. Please ask for the cost of the venue rental and the capacity of the space.

Create a profile on Gathr
Step 1: click “cinema anywhere”
Step 2: click “in person” and enter location and capacity of the venue
Step 3: click “Free” and enter your venue capacity
Step 4: the start and end date should be Sept 18th. We recommend a 7pm to 9pm timing so that you can show the film and show the Q&A.
Request your screening! You'll be taken to a screen that allows you to manage your event and ticket sales. Please wait until our team confirms your screening and sends next steps before making any changes. We will quickly be in touch so that you can start promoting your event. How to Host a Ticketed Screening
As a host your responsibility includes:
Securing the venue
Covering the "print control" fee (admin, tech support & delivery cost) - $200
Covering the film fee - $500
Promoting the event to your community
In return, you’ll get 100% of the ticket sales. We’re partnering with theatrical distributor, Gathr, and their “Events on Demand” tool to ensure your event only proceeds once enough tickets are sold and ensures you won't be left covering the cost of print control and venue out of pocket.
Additionally, Gathr will equip you with a ticketing tool so that you can get paid and so that we can promote your premiere on our website EthereumFilm.xyz.
The film is available in English with subtitles in Spanish, French, German, Chinese and Portuguese. We will be taking requests for other languages on a case-by-case basis. Please email Optimist@Gathr.com if you want to request a language before moving forward.
If the Print Control fee is prohibitive we may be able to provide scholarship assistance. Please reach out to us at Optimist@Gathr.com.

Step 3: click “paid tickets” and “Events on Demand”. Gathr’s “Events on Demand” tool makes sure that the event only goes ahead when enough tickets are sold so there is no risk that you’ll be left covering the cost of the film delivery and venue.
Step 4: the start and end date should be Sept 18th. We recommend a 7pm to 9pm timing so that you can show the film and show the Q&A.
Step 5: enter a minimum guarantee of the cost of the venue plus $200 which is the fee for "print control" plus $500 which is the film fee. We recommend you put a deadline of August 18th for your minimum guarantee to be reached. This will give you enough time to pay your venue one month in advance. If your venue does not need advance notice, you can move your deadline to August 30th.
Request your screening! You'll be taken to a screen that allows you to manage your event and ticket sales. Please wait until our team confirms your screening and sends next steps before making any changes. We will quickly be in touch so that you can start selling tickets. If your event is public it will also show up on our website EthereumFilm.xyz for people to buy tickets.
Hi Linda, is there a package fee for the a community? We may have 10+ city in mainland China to do the screening, (200+500)*10 = $7000 would be way too much cost for a community.
If you're attending the SF premiere of the @ethereumfilm documentary on Sept 18th, there's a meetup before the screening hosted by @event @neynar @splits
I will be at the screening and the happy hour. But the happy hour events page puts me in as waiting list but zeitgeist should be big enough.
I don't see Berlin on the list 🤔 Would anyone be interested in watching premiere IRL? https://warpcast.com/linda/0x591da13f
Looking for hosts! https://paragraph.xyz/@ethereumfilm/host-a-premiere

We're doing an @ethereumfilm team AMA right now with directors @zachingrasci @christemple and producer @carrieweprin Send us any questions you have about the film! You can check out the full trailer and mint at ethereumfilm.xyz
Thanks all for the great questions!
1. Are you planning to screen in theaters? 2. How / when can we watch online?
1. Yes! We are doing a decentralized world premiere on Sept 18th with over 100 screenings in theaters around the world. This Friday you’ll be able to buy early bird tickets on EthereumFilm.xyz! If you live outside of the U.S., Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand WE NEED YOUR HELP hosting screenings! You can find instructions here for how to set up a premiere in your city and have the ticketing go live on our site on Friday: https://paragraph.xyz/@ethereumfilm/host-a-premiere 2. We will also have unchain streaming that starts on Sept 20th and runs for 1 month. You’ll be able to buy unchain tickets this Friday, July 26th on EthereumFilm.xyz
- is there any info on which locations are planned for the world premiere, couldnt find any info on it here ( https://paragraph.xyz/@ethereumfilm/not-just-a-film) - how do we help in hosting screening?
You can submit hosting a screening here https://paragraph.xyz/@ethereumfilm/host-a-premiere We'll be announcing locations later
what was the most surprising thing you learned while making the film?
Honestly, I thought decentralization was a buzzword until I really saw the community of builders in action around the world.
truly! didn't fully grasp what the term "digital nomad" meant until we started making this film!
congrats on finally putting this out. 1. is this also focused for people outside the crypto space to get more aware of the industry? 2. how was the first day of the shoot looked like?
1. We definitely hope the film is for community members, the crypto-curious, and skeptics alike. We often say documentaries are bad at information, but good at emotion and story. So we leaned into showing the heart and humanity behind the technology through Vitalik and the builders behind it.
2: The first shoot was with Vitalik and Aya. It was a whirlwind for our team because it felt like an entirely new language and world to learn!
thanks, @christemple - all the best for the launch ahead!
How many locations did you film in?
I think we filmed in 28 cities in 15 different countries. And that barely scratched the surface of how many places we wanted to include lol
first q: can i mint the trailer in a farcaster frame here? :) second q: how did you guys find each other and decide you were the right team to direct and produce the film together?
Trailer mint is native here with Zora! https://zora.co/collect/base:0x923b382f3205c26efe706c53d69f71f0817aa954/1
1st: Yes, you can! We've added frames to the trailer posts on @EthereumFilm. 2: Zach and I have been working together as co-directors for over a decade as the founders of a non-profit called Optimist. We then met Carrie when we were working on another film in the crypto space called "This Is Not Financial Advice" that premiered at Tribeca last year.
Excited for the movie! I'm curious about your decision to focus on Vitalik. His contributions are undeniably amazing, but I'm interested in understanding the choice considering Ethereum's unique structure where no single person owns it
+ curious too! would be kinda ironic if a film about one of the most important pieces of decentralised tech focused on a central figure lol (even if it’s more than deserved, i think symbolically it matters a lot)

Documentaries always evolve in the process of making them because we never know what story will unfold. It’s the fun and challenge in making them. Focusing on Vitalik, and taking a character-driven approach to the film, allowed us to make the film more accessible to a broader audience, while also allowing us to focus on someone who we felt represented the larger values and ethos of the community. This film is the centerpiece of our “Ethereum Stories” series. We’ll be sharing additional stories each week starting on July 30th that focus on topics like community, generative art, DAOs, public goods, DEX’s and more—all through a human lens!
sounds amazing zach. looking forward to the film and that series as well.
When did you first start gathering footage for the film? What is the earliest footage that you ended up using?
We have some great archival from the early days of the internet, but also feature some home video footage that was generously provided to us by Vitalik and Dima.
What was the impetus for changing the name of the film?
Choosing a film title is always hard. We love the concept of Infinite Garden, and it inspired a lot of the animation and themes of the film. In the end though, we wanted a title that was more direct and descriptive for a story centered around Vitalik himself. Additionally, the feature is a centerpiece in the Ethereum Stories series, so we’ll have additional short films in the upcoming weeks that will also be featured under the title “Ethereum Stories”
will the film be only about vitalik, or will it expand beyond him?
Vitalik is a core part, but there's so much more in it. A single film couldn't capture the full story of Ethereum—this is an ecosystem too diverse and vast for one film—but seeing the community through Vitalik’s eyes helped us make this story accessible, human, and focused. This film is the centerpiece of our “Ethereum Stories” series where we’ll be sharing additional stories each week that focus on topics like community, generative art, DAOs, public goods, DEX’s and more—all through a human lens!
Can you give more details on what "onchain streaming" means for this film?
You'll be able to view the entire film on our website ethereumfilm.xyz if you hold the onchain ticket (NFT)
Nice, looking forward to it!
What was the most unexpected thing you learned?
To @linda: what is the most interesting thing you've learned about film production from this experience? To the production team: what is the most interesting thing you've learned about Ethereum?
Honestly just learning how long editing takes for a feature documentary, had no idea before. Standard to have 1 month of editing work (or more) for every 10 minutes of finished footage
That's a hard question to answer in such a short format! The technical elements have been fascinating undoubtedly, but I think personally I've loved seeing how the decentralized coordination actually happens in practice. We're so used to a traditional top-down corporate structure, that we've loved seeing the messy, beautiful process of consensus.
I would love to know what the most surprising or interesting thing that you learned from the experience is. And I always like to ask people, “would you do it again?” Thanks for putting this on and for creating the documentary. Looking forward to it! 🤙🏼
100% I'd do it again! I grew in a family that only used Linux operating systems and was obsessed with open source idealogy. This was my chance to finally scratch that old itch and learn from people who are a modern manifestation of that community. It was a challenging film to make accessible to a broader audience but I hope we finally got there in the end. I think the experience I will treasure the most was when Vitalik and I visited Ukraine for the Kyiv Tech Conference and were able to talk to local hackers who were part of the hackathon there.
Wow thanks so k uh for sharing dude. I would love the chance to go to a hackathon with @vitalik.eth. 🤯 Thanks for the film and AMA
