The Base Vocabulary

Can you speak the language of the Based?

Welcome to the Vocabaselary!

If you're new to the Baseverse, you're in for spectacular experiences with a community of dope builders. And, if you've been Based before this time, it goes without saying that you've had Basesome experiences and intend on making a lot more.

In this article, I'll be walking you through the words, phrases and terminologies already used in the Base community and I'll also be expanding the Base dictionary we have now to accommodate new words.

Let's get into the Based-trip 😎:

Introduction

Like every community, ecosystem, and universe, language has always been an identity marker for people in a society. It is an essential part of communication and will continue to be.

Communication is what makes us thrive as a people, as it is imperative to pass information of different sorts on to survive. Verbal or nonverbal means of communication have thrived in various cultures, both real and fictional.

As you may have observed, in nearly every culture, a bow is a sign of respect, and “huh” as a single word usually denotes shock, confusion, or bewilderment in various languages.

Similarly, when you hear “Dracarys” from a Targaryen onscreen, you expect to see plumes of fire from a dragon's mouth, and when you see a particular combination of hand signs from a ninja, you can tell that a Jutsu is about to be used.

The rise of web3 lingo

As the rise of the decentralised internet has been prominent in the last “few” years and more people have been coming onchain, the rise of new words/phrases/terminologies has also seen an exponential increase.

  • HODL

  • Rugpull

  • Shill

  • NFT

  • DApp

  • and many others.

Now, to the main focus - Base.

In slightly over a year, the Base community, a community of supportive builders and creators with pure, unfiltered energy, has coined words and phrases to communicate more effectively.

Some of these words have been referenced earlier in this article. So here's a crash course (if you're new to the Baseverse) or a quick refresher course (if you've been Based for a while):

Based

Adjective: the state of anyone/anything being in tune with the goals and visions of Base. Could be a product, person or community.

Modifier: could be used as a prefix (Based-) to further describe the impact/reach/relativity of Base on someone/something.

other popular modifications with "based" are "staying based," "super-based," "so based," e.t.c.

Basesome

Adjective: coined from the combination of "Base" and "Awesome" to describe amazing products, experiences, or people on Base.

Bren

Noun: coined from the combination of "Base" and "fren" to acknowledge a friend (usually a fellow builder/creator on Base)

Bm Bm

"Based morning" 2×

Phrase coined from "Gm Gm" which means "Good morning" 2×. Since "Based" = "Good", Bm Bm is used as a form of greeting amongst Based builders.

All basesome phrases, right? 😌

Expanding the vocabulary

One intriguing thing about language, though, is that it continually evolves. Iterations will always be made to make conversing smoother depending on various contexts, and what's more interesting is how it furthers community growth and bonding.

Hence, to expand the Base Vocabulary, I came up with these new words & terminologies:

Baseverse

Noun: the Base universe consisting of onchain builders, creators, communities and products.

e.g. My journey in the Baseverse in the last 2 months has been amazing.

Basetacular

Adjective: (see Basesome). Spectacular feats, achievements, experiences, people on Base.

e.g. Builders like Sir Dami are just so Basetacular

Basephoria

Noun: a feeling or state of intense excitement and happiness during or after a Based experience.

Adjective - Basephoric

e.g. After our product won the Buildathon, we were overwhelmed with intense Basephoria.

The #FBIAfricaMeetup was electrifying! It was amazing!! It was Basephoric!!!

Basegasm

Noun: to convey a sense of intense pleasure, excitement, or satisfaction on anything associated with the Base network.

e.g. I had a Basegasm after hearing the various onchain solutions that were pitched at the Base Around The World Buildathon.

Basehead

Noun: an avid builder/creator who preaches the gospel of Base with enthusiasm.

e.g. Viviane is such an intriguing fellow - a Beatlehead, a Potterhead and now a Basehead.
