What is Tipping on Warpcast?

How Casters are Paying Each Other to Post

Warpcast is at the cutting edge of SoFi (Social Finance) because it supports multiple on-chain tipping protocols. These give users the opportunity to tip crypto coins with real monetary value on posts that they enjoy.

Some of these tipping chains use an allocation system, where users are given a daily or weekly allowance of "free money" to tip out to other users. Usually, you need to hold X amount of a coin and be active in specific Warpcast channels to be eligible to give out tips.

Other tipping chains, use a direct onchain approach where you use either a floatie or the paybot cast action to directly send small amounts of cryptocurrency from your wallet to the someone else's wallet.

$DEGEN Began it All

The movement started with $DEGEN in early 2024. Active Warpcast users were given a daily allocation of degen points to give out each day. To do so, they need to reply on casts that they liked with a number of degen to tip, such as "25 $degen".

At the end of each season (for degen this is monthly) Warpcast users are able to claim their degen points into an airdrop of actual $DEGEN coins that hold real market value.

Early adopters cleaned up in January and February. By late March, word of degen started to spread around CryptoTwitter, and there was a sudden flood of new users on Warpcast, eager to get in on the game.

How to Receive Tips

The best part about most of these tipping chains is that you do not have to have an allocation yourself to be eligible to receive tips. As long as you are active on Warpcast, and other users enjoy your content, you are good to go.

To receive tips, you need a Warpcast account with a connected Base ETH wallet. Popular choices include Coinbase Wallet, Rainbow Wallet, and Metamask.

To connect your wallet go to your Warpcast settings,

select "Verified Addresses",

and connect your wallet of choice.

Warpcast allows your to connect multiple wallets, but this often leads to confusing when it is time to collect airdrops.

I would recommend dedicating one wallet to Warpcast and sticking with that.

How to Distribute Tips

To distribute tips you either need to be eligible for a daily allocation, or buy coins to distribute with paybot or floaties.

Daily Allocation Coins

Coins that give out daily or weekly tipping allocations include $DEGEN, $RARE, $FARTHER, $TN100x, $WILD, $POWERFEED, and $MASKS.

Each of these coins have their own requirements for earning an allocation. In each cast, your tips are use or lose. You must give out all of your tips to other casters within 24 hours or they disappear.

Once you have an allocation, you can give tips out to other users by either typing the intended tip as 100 $DEGEN or dropping an emoji like 🍖 as a reply to the cast that you want to tip.

Direct Transfer Coins

Direct transfer coins include $GRND, $NOMAD, $BIRDON, $BUILD, $PURR, $BLEU, and $BERRY.

For each of these coins, you need to purchase a bag of coins that you can then tip out to other community members for quality posts in the communities' channels.

Tips are given by buying floaties and dropping the currency with emojis, or by completing a transaction with /paybot.

Tipping Ettiquette

Money is flowing around Warpcast, and naturally bots and bad behaviors have followed. Here are a few tipping do's and dont's.

Do

  • Do post relevant, high quality casts in appropriate channels.

  • Do use your tips to reward engaging casts that you enjoy.

  • Do have fun with the themes and create art or memes related to the coins' themes.

  • Do pay attention to reset times so that you can use your full allocation each day.

  • Do pay attention to airdrop dates, so that you can claim your tips as real cryptocurrency before they expire.

Dont's

  • Don't beg people for tips as replies to their casts or in their DMs.

  • Don't spam channels with a ton of off-topic, low effort casts hoping for attention.

  • Don't give people fake tips (meaning typing 200 $DEGEN when you do not have an allocation) in the hopes that they reciprocate your "generosity".

  • Don't post cast after cast complaining about rules set by the chain moderators.

Final Thoughts

Tipping on Warpcast is a fun way to be part of the social finance movement and to make real money while you build your community on Farcaster.
