Please note: None of the tipping mechanics in this article are made by the Farcaster team. These tokens were created by independent teams and developers, but are used mainly on the Farcaster protocol. Contact individual teams and their channels for questions or feedback.
Tipping Token | Claim Period | Requirements | Website | Daily Reset | Mechanic Example |
$DEGEN | End of the Month | 10,000 $DEGEN in Wallet; tipping actively | 8:00 PM EST | 100 $DEGEN
HAM ($TN100X) | N/A Tips are in Real Time | Hold 100,000 $TN100X or 1 Based LP or 1 Ham Cosplay LP | ~ Midnight EST | 🍖x 100
$FARTHER | End of the Month | Hold 100,000 $FARTHER | 3:00 PM PST | 100 $FARTHER |
$DEGEN is the oldest of the tipping mechanisms. It has seen many changes over the last few months, but the fundamentals remain the same. To tip $DEGEN, simply type AMOUNT $DEGEN as a reply to a cast (i.e. 100 $DEGEN) and the tip is complete.
In order to tip, you must have an allowance. You earn an allowance based on your overall engagement data across Farcaster. The team is using OpenRank data to distribute tip allowances. To receive an allowance, you must have 10,000 $DEGEN in your Farcaster connected wallet on Base. You will then be given a small allowance and you must tip 5 times in 7 days to keep it. Once you meet the qualifications, you will be given a full allowance based on your OpenRank overall engagement. Allowances reset daily at 8:00 PM EST.
For more information about $DEGEN, follow the largest community /degen and the official channel /degentokenbase and follow @jacek on Farcaster. For detailed explanations and in depth analysis of Degen and it's mechanics, please read @rjs Ultimate Degen Tipping Guide.
Ham is the second major tipping mechanic on Farcaster. Ham was created by @deployer. Ham tips are now on chain, unlike $DEGEN. These tokens immediately go to your Farcaster connected wallet on the L3 Ham Chain. The main channel for all things Ham is the /lp channel. One Ham = 1 $TN100X token. You tip ham by replying 🍖 x AMOUNT (i.e. 🍖 x100) on any cast. To receive a Ham allowance (aka a Ham Score) you must hold 100,000 $TN100X tokens or 1 Based LP or 1 Ham LP. Holding more will increase your allowance. Your final allowance is determined by a combination of these holdings, your overall level of activity in the /lp channel and your overall Farcaster activity as seen by AirStack. The exact calculation is unknown. Ham tips reset around Midnight EST. You can check your allowance and Ham Score via ham.fun
For background reading on the whole Ham ecosystem, read @deployers articles on Paragraph.
$FARTHER is one of the newest tipping mechanisms to join the ecosystem. $FARTHER is unique because there is no engagement score or ranking determining allowances. Allowances are given to anyone holding 100,000 $ FARTHER tokens and more users are added daily. Allowances are calculated based on how "far" you spread the tips. The goal is to tip as many new people as possible to bring the into the ecosystem. You are encouraged to tip people who DO NOT have an allowance and to spread it via as many tips as possible. The daily minimum changes at each reset at 3:00 PM EST so you must log in daily to check the minimum tip amount. The website is farther.social and the channel is /farther. Tips are claimed at the end of the month. You can track your received tips on the website as well. Follow the official account at @farther
Thanks for explaining - was wondering how this worked!
What does it mean when you are tipped Farther or Ham? I know what Degen is and I even cashed some out but I have not seen an explanation of this. Thank you for all the tips.
Essentially, they are just different tipping token ecosystems. There are minor differences between them all as far as getting an allowance goes and how to actually tip... But they can all be swapped to whatever other tokens and even cashed out the same way you did with degen!
🤷♂️
Permissionless ecosystem, so other teams have made different ripping tokens with different tokenomics and goals. $HAM and $FARTHER are two such examples. I quite like /build, which is a social currency by @macedo centered around nominating other people building in the space and rewarding them with $BUILD tokens.
I’ll answer since a lot of people have skipped over the actual answer. You can cash our FARTHER tips at farther.social once per month. Ham tips are really cool because they are on-chain and they come to your account in real time. However, they are on their own chain, so to transfer them somewhere to spend like Base, you’d have to bridge from ham chain, which can be done here: ham.fun
thanks bro
I’ll add that each new token has the opportunity to develop new concepts and ideas in the realm of tipping for example with Ham (tn100x is the actual token) you can set a unique top amount to be sent to someone when you like their post so I liked this post… and by doing so I sent you 69 🍖 (69 tn100x) the best devs will create neat tools that hopefully will increase adoption. Therefore we evaluate the devs of the project not just the community.
no one knows
But it’s provocative!
Not very familiar with Farther Checkout /lp and ham.fun for info on 🍖! It’s an onchain token with its own L3 connected to $tn100x token on Base
they're designed to take your attention away from Degen
🤔 🍓 x 100
check out /lp and hum.fun 🍖 x200
they're all dif forms of tips usually with their own community channels. also not mentioned yet: the ham peeps also make floaties which are kind of prepurchased tip bundles in all different types of currencies. so if somebody send you 🎩x3 (one hat = 10 degen so you should be sent 10x3 degen) if you ever see floaty bots they let you know if you've been sent floaties
This is my love/hate relationship with Farcaster time. Builders ship so fast here. My article is already out of date for all 3 tipping systems. Guess I’ll be updating it this week! Now that the $Farther sparkles are gone my art just looks silly after I tried so hard to capture them all in one place ;) https://paragraph.xyz/@pichi/farcaster-tipping
When hunt and masks? And of course Ⓜ️oxie 😍
And this is why supporting documentation is usually anemic and unhelpful. Spend the real time it takes to describe something in human terms. Obsolete after a fortnight. Keep hosting the spaces. That's the best way to mark changes and course correct.
You are always crushing 100 $degen
I see you have an update. You are always on the cutting edge!!!! Expectations for you ✨
this is important 420 $degen
this is the hard hitting journalism i’ve been waiting for 420 $degen
Now you’ve done it. Once you post to memes you are one of us and we are allowed to start hitting you with tip cocktails. Enjoy! 100 $DEGEN 208 $FARTHER 🍖 x 100 🎭 100 $JRI 100 $WILD 100 $hunt https://paragraph.xyz/@pichi/farcaster-tipping?referrer=0x19D8da2674E8A025154153297ea3AB918DebF96d

It’s over for him

Cute
Not even trying to shill @pichi but this was another banger, all the tippings on farcaster are honestly a bit overwhelming haha: https://paragraph.xyz/@pichi/farcaster-tipping?referrer=0x1234567890
I just subscribed to @pichi on /paragraph! Check it out:
