Introducing Farcaster Builders International (FBI) Africa

We’re taking FBI global. Starting with FBI Africa.

The vision remains the same, be the builder onramp to Base and help bring the world onchain by building net new consumer experiences.

The thesis for this expansion, is that for us to truly bring the world onchain, we need to deepen east-west ties and improve global builder coordination. Bring builders closer to deep insights, capital, and each other. 

FBI started off as a builder collective on Base with a small Base meetup in Bangalore, India. I invited some 40 of my friends from the Indian crypto circuit and served them nice chai and bun maska on a nice rooftop clubhouse in central Bangalore. We jammed about consumer crypto, farcaster, and the feasibility of Base truly onboarding a billion users onchain.

This was February.

Cut to today- 

• We hosted a roast where Rarible, Wildcard, Ponder, and other A-tier consumer crypto projects got roasted by web3 brands and web2 investors.

• Based games, a week long survival game FBI built went live in partnership with Base and top Farcaster projects.

• FBI and Proxy Studio are co-hosting a meetup with Base in Boston.

I’ve gotten to a point where I can truly say that we are not just the largest builder collective on base, but also the most tight knit and fun. We seem to have created a space that I would have liked to belong to and operate from when I was starting out as a builder.

All because a bunch of friends decided to bring base and Farcaster to India.

FBI Africa isn’t a random experiment. It has been months in the making. 

In fact, fun backstory is that Jesse connected me with Yele Bademosi last April for no particular reason.

Yele and I jammed for an hour and just shared journeys! It was somewhat obvious to both of us that India and Africa together have the highest developer population in the world, what’s needed was a culture and space for us to bring them together.

Since then, Yele and I have been in touch regularly for various things. He’s been an incredible support system, mentor, and a very fun presence in the FBI community. You’ll see us vibe on culture, share personal stories, and overall shitpost in the chat.

This onchain summer hackathon (Base Buildathon) saw 7 of the top 10 projects by quadratic voting come out of our collectives in India and Africa. That was where we felt, imagine if we worked more closely together.

So here we are, launching a whole new era of building consumer crypto and jamming Farcaster with FBI Africa.

The idea is dead simple- replicate what we did with FBI in India. Allow founders and builders to build cool shit together, find users, distribution, access to opportunities, capital, and have fun in the process.

We’re honored to be partnering with Yele and the Onboard team that’ll be core contributors to the FBI Africa chapter.
