Recap of Last Month: Last month, we embraced our ethos of experimentation by testing out a 2-hour panel with eight different speakers, and I'm thrilled to share that we hit a record of every host and guest online at once! The session, titled "Surviving Between Work for Marketers and Community Builders - Finding Meaning and Joy," brought us together to chat current market dynamics, trends and how we’re all finding strength and inspiration in our communities as we navigate the volatility of crypto and our own career paths.
Discussion included:
Being Chronically Online vs Taking Breaks:
Some spicy takes! Love it or hate it, we explored how Twitter/X remains a critical platform for web3 marketing, serving as a proxy for industry engagement. We highlighted the importance of balancing online presence with mental health, and the value of taking intentional breaks from social media. However, some of us, especially in specific marketing functions, need to be chronically online, given the fast pace of this industry.Unconventional Resumes in Web3:
The panel dove into the unique aspects of web3 hiring, where resumes might include NFTs or POAPs. Again, there were differing thoughts amongst the group here! We discussed the importance of understanding current narratives and trends in crypto and the challenges of evaluating marketing experience in such a rapidly evolving space. A couple of tweets caught our eye that we yapped about:
Building Authentic Connections:
We discussed the importance of building genuine connections with followers, especially in an algorithm-driven world where platforms like TikTok can make content distribution impersonal. We also debated the merits of different platforms, such as LinkedIn, for professional networking versus decentralized social media for staying on top of trends, with Twitter/X still holding strong for reach.Navigating Early-Stage Crypto Companies:
A few of us, either actively hiring or searching, shared the challenges of articulating product value in early-stage crypto companies and the importance of asking the right questions during interviews. There’s an apparent mismatch between the demand for talent and the visibility of job postings, making it crucial for professionals to express their expertise effectively. We shared different approaches to finding work, like doubling down on writing expertise and letting inbound work flow in based on that. Another tactic was asking trusted people what they think your strengths are and leaning into these answers that may surprise you!Fun Ways We’re Growing and Learning:
We considered hosting an unofficial book club, and a few folks recommended books like The Creative Act and The Artist’s Way, "very Boys Club coded," which includes writing prompts that teach you how to access your creative force, maximize your creativity and achieve your artistic destiny. Unique idea for a Book Club - everyone reads a different book and shares what they learned!
This Month's Theme: Writing Tips for the Digital Age. In this edition, we’re bringing together a panel of onchain writers and storytellers who will share practical advice on how to position yourself for opportunities, collaborate effectively, and contribute to a better internet through the power of storytelling.

My Q&A with cohost Riley as prep for this month:
Something I admire about you is how consistent you have been with writing - what tips do you have for staying consistent, and what keeps you motivated?
Staying motivated to write is easier said than done. An immense, infinite curiosity and desire to help translate the more pressing issues of our time keeps me going. I believe consistency comes naturally with doing a thing you love. I can write and never get bored of it, unlike most other things. Making friends with people who have different writing styles and voices helps to push me to consistently challenge myself as a writer.I know you’ve received some grants for your writing (congrats!) - can you say more about that?
I took a bit of a break from writing my newsletter over the summer. However, due to prior consistency and continued publishing I have been writing for other groups I'm part of. These include Unlock Protocol for Tally's Content Guild, editing a book for Greenpill Writer's Guild, and I was sponsored by Celo as a content creator for FWB FEST.Sneak peek of what you’ll be talking about?
I'll be talking about my journey as a professional writer and editor, and the process it takes to complete a successful piece of writing. Secondly, I'll give some practical advice on building successful storytelling into your writing practice and provide action steps writers can take to increase their skills.
