Are Bitcoin Ordinals the future of NFTs? This tweet makes some great points. Serious NFT investors consider chain risk. For that reason, bitcoin could be the NFT platform of the future. On the other hand, there are some drawbacks.
Meta will block social media content in Canada on implementation of Bill C-18. This could provide a boost to Web3 platforms, but (see the survey below) people will need to know about them. Bill C-18 forces Big Tech companies like Google and Facebook to pay news outlets for content posted on their platforms. Meta said they will begin testing the loss of online news content on its platforms to a small percentage of Canadian users. This test is likely to see what the reaction will be and whether it can turn its expense into a profit. It could lead to Meta offering a paid news subscription service to its users, but that would be a bad thing. It would be even worse if a similar law passed in the U.S. On the other hand, it could lead to Web3 adoption. And I'd like to add that every user should be compensated for their content, so why single out news platforms?
In related news, Bill C-11, The Online Streaming Act, was passed last month allowing Canada's Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission to regulate online content. This law has Canadian content producers very concern. In fact, Vancity Vanlife, one of the most popular vanlife YouTubers, is preparing for potentially losing access to 90 percent of his audience.

In a survey on Web3, 67 percent of 15,000 people polled said they should have ownership over their online content. While this survey indicates people want to be paid for what they produce online, a very small percentage of people have heard of Web3 and know what it is. In one sense, this is encouraging. People want the benefits of Web3. On the other hand, they don't know those benefits are available right now. They should read my book. If you agree, share this newsletter with them.

44 percent of Web3 investments this year are going to the metaverse. This is just plain sad. Can the metaverse make retail more inclusive? If retail needs the metaverse to be more inclusive, it's got bigger issues.
