Starting fresh

We're contemplating fresh starts in issue #226 of your weekly poetry shot

From the Spice Islands
he migrated half a world
and built his life here.

In the early 1950s, my dad sailed, as a stowaway, halfway across the world, from a very tropical place to the colder climes of Northwestern Europe. He had to leave. So he did. He built his life in a strange place.

The beginning of a new year is a good moment to think about stories like this. We can all start something new in unfamiliar places. We don't really need a new calendar year to do so, but it is as good a moment as any. I may not be starting something new this year, but I will build out on something I started before. This newsletter, including the onchain poetry digest, and the beautiful thing I added to that last year: the trpplffct poetry grant fund for onchain poetry. Thanks to generous donations, first by Sasha Stiles, and last week by Jesse Pollak, I will be able to run the monthly poetry grant the entire year, and add a new program to it. And no, I am not forgetting the generous degen tips the trpplffct account receives on Farcaster, that all will be 100% used for the grant fund.

The second grant program will be focused on collecting onchain poetry and exhibiting it. Still working on the details, so more on that later.

What will you build this year?

Poésie de la vie

This year, apparently, marks the start of a new generation. Let's give them a good start, by telling them about the Golden Rule, a rule that has not been given the attention it should have had in the last few years.
