New Farcaster Channels Rules 👀

Farcaster recently introduced new channel rules, requiring users to join a channel as members before casting in it. This has sparked mixed reactions on the platform:

  • Some users compare the change to Telegram channels, noting it adds barriers for non-members.

  • Many complain about the inability to join channels like /finance without clear membership options.

  • Supporters believe this will make channels feel like curated destinations and reduce spam, but others argue it alienates new users.

This change raises important concerns. While it may improve content curation, it could isolate newcomers, making it harder for them to engage.

Channel owners are adapting by introducing solutions like invite links for easy access and developing tools like “fargate frames" to manage channels better.

These will allow features like membership gating or mission-based entry, enabling users to join for free by completing tasks such as holding tokens.

Our take 🤓

The added friction of paying for subscriptions to multiple channels also heightens worries about “cabals” and gatekeeping, with some users questioning whether it’s worth paying to access content managed by channel owners with limited expertise.

While the idea of better-curated channels sounds appealing, this move risks creating silos and making the platform less accessible. It’s a crucial shift for Farcaster—one to watch closely as it develops.

$Bonsai: Cross-Chain Expansion 🔗

What’s going on? 👀

Bonsai is going cross-chain! The team is expanding their token network across zkSync Era, Base, and the upcoming Lens Network, aiming to create the first cross-chain token network that generates a viral flywheel effect through incentives and monetization.

How it works 🤯

They’re bridging the Bonsai token across these networks, it’s present where creators and collectors are most active.

With over 13 million Bonsai earned by creators, they’re establishing a strong link between the token and creator monetization. Their onchain campaigns are driving real revenue, and they’re just getting started!

Why it matters 😊

This expansion positions Bonsai at the forefront of creator monetization on Lens, fostering greater community participation.

As they roll out to zkSync and Base, they’re closing the loop on on-chain campaigns, converting collectors into true fans of creators.

What’s next? 🚀

  • Contracts deployed

  • LP rewards on Aerodrome ongoing️

  • Bridge on Stargate ️ongoing

  • Creator campaigns w/ @zoranetwork, @stack and Boost 👀

Phase 2 will bring $BONSAI into Lens Network, opening up new possibilities for integration and innovation. The future is cross-chain, and it’s exciting to see where it goes!

Aren't you bulish?

ArtistsByRefraction Launches $IRL Token 🚀

What’s going on? 👀

ArtistsByRefraction is shaking up the cultural landscape! This community of music, art, and culture enthusiasts is launching the $IRL token, aiming to empower creators and reshape how culture is experienced and supported.

Where is it going? 🚀

The $IRL token will balance value within the cultural ecosystem, moving away from centralized power structures.

With the introduction of Towns, a decentralised protocol, members can own their online experiences and build vibrant communities without the constraints of traditional platforms.

Why it matters 😊

This initiative is crucial for artists and creators who have long been undervalued. By fostering ownership and creativity, ArtistsByRefraction is paving the way for a more equitable cultural landscape, where communities can thrive and innovate.

Beer Taste: Modelito from Mexico 🍻

This week’s beer pick, inspired by our fren Amber’s post on Farcaster, is Modelo Modelito—a mini version of the iconic Modelo Especial.

Modelo Especial, first brewed in 1925, quickly became a favorite for its smooth, balanced taste, and by the 1980s, it began making waves internationally.

Today, Modelo Especial is one of the top-selling beers in the U.S., trailing only Corona in the imported beer category.

With a brewing tradition influenced by German settlers, Modelo’s pilsner-style lager reflects the fusion of Mexican brewing heritage with European techniques.

Now, enter Modelo Modelito—a scaled-down, 7-ounce version of Modelo Especial. Designed for quick and chilled consumption, it retains the same malty backbone and refreshing, crisp finish.

Its small size ensures you’ll enjoy your beer before it warms, making it ideal for hot summer days or quick, casual sips.

So...Whether you're enjoying a summer barbecue or a casual gathering, Modelo Modelito is a delicious and refreshing choice. Shout out to Amber for the inspo and cheers everyone!
