The current meta is that doing things onchain will be rewarded. Start here, with Base’s Jesse Pollak talking last week at ETHDenver about how Base and the Optimism (OP) ecosystem are recognizing and rewarding builders.
Watch the video.
(It’s important to note that this isn’t limited to building just in the OP ecosystem. Other parts of the onchain world are also are executing on models that reward builders.)
Unlock Protocol is currently deployed to nearly two dozen networks, meaning that when and if any of those ecosystems choose to reward their participants for activity, Unlock builders reap the rewards.
Take the recent Optimism airdrop, for example.
Multiple teams and projects are sitting pretty with an extra 6k OP tokens in their pocket, translating to nearly $25k each, because they brought their events and other activities onchain.
We analyzed the data, and forty-six different projects built using Unlock Protocol received a total of over 30k OP tokens for building onchain over the past year (equivalent to about $120,000 as of March, 2024). Some projects received as much as 6000 OP in the airdrop.
This is a fundamental reason to bring activities onchain.
In contrast to traditional, offchain activities, bringing activities onchain can result in participating in the benefits that traditional businesses can’t offer.
(When was the last time that you got an airdrop from Luma or Eventbrite? Go ahead, we’ll wait.)
Builders bringing any type of membership and subscription-related activity onchain can participate in these type of rewards.
Onchain Events and Ticketing
Proof of Attendance
Certifications
Memberships
Subscriptions
Any project that has an onchain component should, can, and possibly will participate in these ecosystem flywheels, where onchain economic activity is shared with participants of the system.
We’re just back from ETHDenver 2024. Projects like Privy.io, PizzaDAO, Sparx, MetaCartel, LexDAO, and other awesome partners not only had a blast at their events , but also may end up with a nice little bonus for their efforts, per Jesse’s video above. It’s a no-brainer, right?
There were about 16 events across ETHDenver that Unlock helped bring onchain. All of whom could be eligible for future rewards.
Your next steps
If you are doing things offchain, but want to try to figure out how to tap into this model, hit us up, and let’s make it happen.
For example, if you did an event offchain at ETHDenver, you can still drop your attendees an onchain Proof of Attendance. You should do this. It’ll take just a few minutes, and the Unlock Protocol community is here to help if you need it — in fact, we did a whole webinar on it that you can follow along with.
Let’s not just keep bumbling along the way we’ve always done things.
If we’re hosting events, let’s make them memorable, engaging, and yes, rewarding.
If we’re teaching workshops or we’re hosting courses, let’s make them rewarding.
If we’re involved in creative or media projects, let’s make them rewarding.
If we’re building subscription businesses, let’s make them rewarding.
See you onchain.
