hi
I was introduced to Paragraph via Farcaster, way back. I also used it for some time for a company's blog. I always had the intent, and the urge to write. I am finally here today.
Past Experience
I have been writing sporadically for the past few years.
Infinite Blades devblog: This was my first and only venture (so far). We were building a game that had a fairly extensive scope and an 18-month production cycle. Even though it was just the two of us working on it, we "extensively" documented every aspect of our journey. The dev blog consists of various progress updates directed towards our players, but we also had a MASSIVE Notion workspace with 20,000+ words of internal documentation.
Atomic Essays: The idea was to write at least 250 words daily. No agenda, no targets. The only goal was to show up. And I did! For 72 DAYS! I exceeded my expectations and am still proud of it. The entries include various topics from very superficial thoughts and knowledge to some personal bits about self to some general event-based emotions and reflections.
The reason I am sharing this is to set some context for myself and for the readers about how far I am along in this journey and reiterate WHY I am doing this.
The WHY
Why am I writing? What's the point? I stopped showing up after 72 days. I wasn't enjoying the process. Then why again? Why now?
The answer: Clarity of thought will play a major role in operating in the LLM era. An era where words can become magic wands, where individuals can bring their ideas to life, just by typing or saying them out loud.
It is important to be able to articulate your thoughts and ideas well enough for the individual in front of you to understand.
The individual = machines, in this case
Humans have had issues with communicating their ideas successfully for the longest time. One GPT search tells me these miscommunications have led to events that have changed the world for better or worse. I won't list them here considering there is room for inaccuracies with LLMs still.
Coming back to the original point, clarity of thought and consequently communication are something I strive to improve upon day in and day out. Also being in a long-distance relationship has made it a mandatory requirement to be good at communicating.
So why i am doing this? Clarity of thought and communication. I do not think there's a better way to do this than writing. Writing takes the intangible words in your head and on your tongue and puts them in front of your eyes, giving it a visual identity.
I also recently read about writing by ear and not eye and it hit. I am making conscious efforts to speak as I write this article.
The Inspiration
I never imagined @july write about football. He wrote about it. And beautifully so. Check out the post here.
This is the level of writing I currently aspire to get to. Much of what July shared wasn't "new information" to me, but the way it was articulated was such that it still felt so insightful and profound.
I aspire to get to a point in writing where I use more descriptive sentences to communicate how I felt about July's thread beyond the 3 adjectives used above.
What's next?
We will see. Ever since I signed up for /firstdraft, I have been noting down article ideas furiously as and when they come (mostly in the shower). Much of it I will either write about on the whim or when I am out of ideas or things to yap about.
Regardless, I am excited to get back to writing again, and I look forward to reading everyone else's articles and hopefully learning and getting some feedback.
If you made it this far, thank you!
