Vrbish #15 - Skateparks and Tomatoes

Welcome back to Vrbish, a newsletter that distills all the exciting updates and news from Vrbs DAO and delivers them straight to your inbox every week!

This edition will dive into a new funding proposal for skatepark refurbishment, growing community through growing plants, and Vrbs Hangout scheduled.

New Proposal: Revitalization of Paramaribo Skatepark

A new proposal is currently up for vote! This project is the Revitalization of Paramaribo Skatepark for $1,700 USD (0.71 eth). Voting closes in approximately 2 days, and has already reached quorum with overwhelming support thus far

Proposal Summary:

The skatepark in Paramaribo, Suriname, is a vital recreational space for local youth and skateboard enthusiasts. Over time, it has fallen into disrepair, with chipped paint, surface cracks, and damaged structures. With the growing skateboarding community, it is essential to refurbish the skatepark to provide a safe and appealing environment. I have secured $300 through the VRBS grant and are requesting an additional $1,700 to cover the remaining costs of repairs and repainting.

Seeds for Neighbors - Avi's Cherry Tomatoes

NFTs for - checks notes - cherry tomatoes?

I was not expecting to see this when checking out the Vrbs Impact Mint page. On first glance it felt seemingly out of place, but that was only because I didn’t know its purpose.

Avi’s Cherry Tomatoes is part of the Seeds for Neighbors Program, a collection of dNFTs that represent an actual plant planted in the Cabin neighborhood of Hadar, Haifa, Israel. The dNFT allows you to follow the plant’s journey as the metadata is updated, allowing you to join and support their growing global community.

Proceeds from Seeds for Neighbors mints are distributed back to Vrbs DAO (20%), Cabin.city (building a global network of modern villages), the seed planter (onboarding them into crypto), and the local neighborhood treasury (to fund more community projects).

Seeds for Neighbors dNFTs “...will not get you to the moon, but it will sure connect you to the ground, and to a local community initiative to clean up, art up, and otherwise placemake up a neighborhood.”

This program is really cool, and got me thinking, how else can we apply this model? The dNFTs are basically micro-grants, allowing one or more people to sponsor an activity (growing cherry tomatoes) and track its progress through updating metadata. I see this model as a unique way to build a community around an activity. Collectors become invested in the initiative and its progress.

How could you implement dNFTs into your community?
