Builder Spotlight with Kishan - How "Behind The Pixels" will spread the ethos of Vrbs
1. This Week in Vrbs
Jesse Pollak enters the chat
If you live under a rock, you might have missed that Jesse Pollak, creator and lead of Base joined Vrbs this week. Why is this a big deal? Jesse not only has a large distribution network, but is building the future economy with Base. Someone with world-building ambition taking notice of Vrbs means we are on the right track!
Not only did Jesse win a Vrbs Auction, but he announced it on X, with the post receiving >11k views. This level of validation is a huge win for the DAO!
Torii-Stories receives Grant to grow Vrbs Farcaster presence
Another very important step was taken this week to grow Vrbs distribution. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, increasing visibility across all social platforms is the #1 way to increase the DAO's effectiveness. People need to know about all the cool things we're doing before they decide to join!
Torii-Stories has decades of experience in social media management, specializing in creating engaging content and growing online communities.
Sounds like the perfect fit! Go check out Torii-Stories on Farcaster for more!
Local Impact Grant Expansion
The beauty of the Grants Program: You can do things you enjoy, make a positive impact, and get paid!
A perfect example of this alignment is coolbeans1r.eth. In his own words, "I would love to be able to finance guerilla gardening, river cleanup, community gardens, gatherings to communicate to people about bioregionalism and solarpunk'n. I could also host community potlucks, I have access to a community center and there are lots of people who are doing bad out here financially."
Check out his latest YouTube video below! (link to YouTube here). More on Cool Beans soon, as I plan to interview him for an upcoming edition of Vrbish!
More Vrbs Builders making a difference:
Another new recipient of the Local Impact Grant is Vale, who will be feeding homeless stray dogs in Costa Rica!
Art Spotlight
This week, Dakimici deserves some major props. The piece you see below is packed with details, and took over 8 hours to create.
Go show Dakimici some love and consider collecting this incredible piece!
Builder Spotlight - Kishan
Kishan Boriya recently passed a proposal and received 1 ETH of funding to create a video series spotlighting Vrbs artists called "Behind the Pixels."
With 5 years of experience working with Web3 brands to craft content and marketing narratives, and over a decade of experience in visual storytelling, working in media and advertising, Kishan is bringing his talents to tell the story of the artists that keep Vrbs thriving.
In this interview we talk about the motivations, goals, and importance of the "Behind The Pixels" series.
[Curtis] Can you tell us more about your background and how you first became interested in Web3?
[Kishan] Previously I worked at an advertising and production agency, but when COVID hit, it all stopped. To shoot ads you need a large production crew behind the scenes, which wasn't possible due to the restrictions. I also wanted to stay close to my parents and needed to find a work-from-home job. Somewhere during that period I learned about blockchain technology. I was fascinated by the tech and started going deeper down the rabbit-hole. I wanted to apply my skills and began working at Web3 Startups, mostly with content and creative. Now I run my own agency helping other startups with video content.
[Curtis] How did you first hear about Vrbs?
[Kishan] I learned about Vrbs through the Nouns DAO. I was editing GreenPill Pocdast (hosted by Kevin Owocki) and heard about Nouns. As Vrbs was being formed I explored the DAO and really resonated with the mission, art, and model. The most basic thing that attracted me to Vrbs, they fund creativity.
[Curtis] And you'll get to continue working in your area of strength, video storytelling with this series. Could you expand on the goal of 'Behind the Pixels'?
[Kishan] Sharing the artist's story is the base idea, but there are many motivations behind this. There has to be some benefit beyond physical or tangible. Artists do what they do for more than just money, they create to satisfy an inner hunger. This series will communicate to viewers how the artist felt and why the artist creates the way he creates. Going "behind the pixel" means learning more about the artist and translating their perspective.
[Curtis] This series will start with 5 episodes. What is your overall goal with these 5 episodes, or let me rephrase, what does success look like to you?
[Kishan] Just like in advertising, an ad can never guarantee increased sales, but it should always leave a lasting impression. Of course I want the views to increase over time, and have more and more people talking about the series, but real success here would be to inspire other people to share more stories, and bring more recognition to these artists.
[Curtis] I can truly feel how passionate you are for this project. Why is this so important for you?
[Kishan] I've always wanted to get more into documentary style content. So this is a win-win situation. It helps me fulfill my passions, and helps the artists and DAO get validation and attention.
Thank you for reading!
