What's longer than Longer?

Brand new distance category revealed inside for 2024!

Woof! Introducing the brand new Further distance category at XFondo Whistler 2024, now open for your good self to sign up! But before we do that...

Fireside Chat #001

We're delighted to be working alongside Ruckus with the goal of helping more women access and enjoy the world of all terrain cycling.

Check out the first ever XFondo fireside chat with members Elliot and Corinne as we take a deep dive into ways women can get started with cycling in the first place, some of the common misconceptions about what it means to race in events, and what more can be done to support women in a historically male-dominated arena.

And yes, the podcast learning curve is real...

Meanwhile, back to news of this Further category!

First of all, a recap. Here's what's on the table traditionally:

1: "Shorter"; 43km / 1000m up, approx 2.5 hours for the average rider

Shorter might come with a pint size name, but don't be fooled. This punchy challenge takes on the same terrain as the next category up, just with a little less waltzing around in Lost Lake at the start. Not to be underestimated and a great opening test of your all-terrain skills.

2: "Longer"; 60km / 1300m up, approx 3 hours for the average i-like-to-go-fast person

Longer is the bushy tailfeathered bird that likes to think it rules the roost. With many people writing 60km off as sounding like a stroll in the ol' forest before getting their lactic acid handed right back at them, this category assures you feeling mighty spectacular when you finally get to drop into welcoming clutches of the finish line's adirondack chairs, loud sigh, grin and all.

(and now, brand new, "iiiiiin the red corner...")

3: "Further"; 73km / 1770m up; between 3.5/4 hours for your typical superkeener

What can we say? For some people, more will always be more. And when the newly opened Sea to Sky trail extension offered us the ability to bring you more unfettered access to some of BC's best all terrain, we're going to take that deal all day long.

Further adds an additional 13km to the Longer option, continuing north towards Pemberton at the Motocross Track turnoff and blasting up the new Rutherford Creek section before turning back for home at Suicide Hill. You'll rejoin the rest of the field at the Speedway and riding as one in the direction of Spruce Grove. Then, we celebrate.

Further: mud-splashed tough-ass magic that you're going to love and curse in equal measure. Bring it on!
