Is reciprocity needed in our space? I mean, in crypto/web3 space?
I would say definitely yes! Reciprocity is needed in any space where bonds are formed, where people work and socialize, anywhere where humans are to be found. It is human, and it will soon be counted as a sign of being human 😀
And I am not talking about follow-for-follow kind of reciprocity. I disdain that one a lot. Why? Because I can't really choose who's following me, so all these requests coming with follow me back asks are just annoying spam.
Why am I mentioning reciprocity now? It is because it seems to me that Farcaster and even crypto Twitter had tons of reciprocity early on, and it got muted over time by loud individuals screaming me, me, me while slapping green charts and price predictions and farmed token handles on everything they do, and hence on everything you see.
That's why now.
I think brotherhood or sisterhood is not formed on a timeline by screaming "LFG" on each cast with a meme because that gives you zero mental value back.
I do believe bonds are formed by longer comments on meaningful topics or questions, by respectful disagreement, by asking questions, by digging deeper into answers, and by being genuinely interested in people.
I know it's sometimes hard. Even interesting people post many memes or new meme token handles, but some do other things as well. It's almost our obligation to look for those who post other things as well, and it's your obligation to find courage to post other things too.
Only that way we can find you or each other!
There are many SocialFi-like experiments on Farcaster and X these days. If you join, and you have even some modest means, try to find those who are genuinely trying to do something you like and support them. Every card or profile purchase is a small encouragement, which, for the right person, can be a difference between stopping and continuing. And we want and need more of the right people to continue creating, building, trying.
This goes the opposite way as well; when someone supports you early on, you should remember them and try to do the same for them. Maybe on another platform, maybe in another format, but that's how those bonds I mentioned earlier are being formed.
And be curious about why they supported you. 🤔 Thank them. Ask them what you can do for them even if you can't afford their token. Maybe they don't need or want you to buy their token, but they may need support in something else that they're starting and you are good at already.
Who knows ... Let's be humans that interact more than with just three letters and ham or .
