Welcome to Farcaster 101, a 12 part educational series designed to introduce marketing professionals to the fundamentals of Farcaster. In Module 9 of our Farcaster 101 series, we focus on content creation and share insights into casting, analyze engagement trends, and explain the different content types.

A cast is to Farcaster what a tweet is to Twitter or what a post is to X. Initially launched as a text-only platform, Farcaster has evolved to support images, gifs, videos, and frames. However, Farcaster's culture is still heavily rooted in text-based communication, emphasizing meaningful dialogue.

Unlike other platforms, Farcaster does not penalize links in the algorithm, meaning you can share external content without worrying about visibility. This creates an open environment for seamless sharing across the web.

Activity Breakdown: Following the 1% rule of social networks, only 1.1% of users create more than 250 casts per month, while the majority cast fewer than 25 times. This imbalance offers a massive opportunity for creators to stand out.

Trending Topics: Words like "Degen," "Moxie," and "Farcaster" frequently trend, reflecting a blend of crypto culture and technical discussions. Tools like this Dune dashboard are invaluable for monitoring these trends and finding inspiration.

1. Text-Based Content: The simplest and most direct way to cast.

2. Frames: Interactive and dynamic, frames allow users to share polls, events, and other structured content. Frames can be created directly on platforms like Paragraph or with tools such as Frame Studio. Refer back to module 3 and module 4 to learn more about Frames.

3. Photos, GIFs, and Videos: While photos and GIFs are widely used, video sharing is currently limited to users with FID (Farcaster ID) under 10,000 or those who request access. Videos can be up to five minutes long, supporting diverse formats like tutorials and updates.

While data shows slight engagement peaks mid-morning (US Eastern Time), Farcaster’s global community ensures activity around the clock. The key takeaway: Consistency matters more than timing. Cast frequently and authentically to maximize reach.

The default cast length is 320 characters, with support for long casts up to 1024 characters. For users wanting to share extended content:

• Use platforms like Paragraph to publish long-form posts. Links to these posts are rendered beautifully in-app, providing a seamless reading experience.

• Explore threading options with third-party clients like Supercast, which support continuous threads natively.

Farcaster celebrates creators with innovative reward systems:

• Warpcast Rewards: The top 100 casters receive $5 USDC daily based on engagement. This is a 2024 Q4 experiment and may or may not continue into 2025.

• Tipping Culture: Users can tip others using cryptocurrencies like Degen or Moxie.

• Rounds: Community-driven reward pools managed through tools like Rounds incentivize high-quality contributions.

These mechanisms empower creators to monetize their work, reflecting the decentralized ethos of the platform.
